Chicago has a wealth of fantastic Mexican food. The midsize town where we are a couple of hours south has gone from a taco desert to having lots of options (trucks, restaurants and a couple of spots in the back of grocery stores) in the 15-plus years we’ve been here. It’s been impressive to watch.

The first news room I worked in post-college had one camera, an SLR that I was in no way qualified to handle. But no one else wanted it, so I was it. I took maybe 5 decent photos in the 10 months I had it. A blurry dolphin in a ship channel was my high point.
