my other palettes and notes on colors!
1. the first iteration was a bit closer to my initial design's color scheme, with dark emerald and berry pink. it's a little too flat with all the shades of green, not playing enough with hue, but i really loved the emerald/berry color combo. this one also includes a dark colored corset, which we found an important element for the final design. 2. this one referenced shiny meowscarada's color palette, and it just doesn't work to me. way too flat, especially with the cuts in the pants just being another shade of green. i like the more blue-ish leaning green, but in combination with the very yellow gold, it wasn't doing it. 3. the best of the three imo, but still not it. this one referenced a picture of a venetian carnival mask with peacock blues/greens. the sleeves were the constant annoyance in each palette, not wanting them to blend too much with the corset, so they would have to contrast whatever the corset color wound up being. this was the color palette we liked the most, but the light colored corset was the sticking point. i took this palette and tried one more time. (also, the stockings are too dark here, they offset the balance of everything in a bad way.) 4. the fourth try! the dark corset helps to sort of ground the eye in the center of the design, with lighter colors radiating out around it in the sleeves and pants. the gold is allowed to be a little more prominent (the cuts in the pants, the lining of the corset as seen at the bottom), and the greens feel like a proper gamut of hues, less flat. the pink gets to come in just a little within the shadows, which deepens the indigo color of the ruffles and makes their pink eyes pop. i like the indigo/peacock green a lot! i think the design hopefully reads as busy but harmonious.

body hair drawing tips i put together very quickly for tumblr :)

This usually looks a little strange - that's because body hair doesn't have the weight to fall straight down. instead, body hair tends to flow with the shape of the body. consider the center line of the bod as a convergence point, where the hair around it flows kind of like a rip current. two drawings of the same shirtless man, side by side. the one on the left is flat colored, while the one on the right is a kind of topographical map of body hair distribution. The text on the image reads: this already looks a lot more natural, but doesn't take density into account. Consider where hair might grow thickets on the body - this isn't universal, and will vary from person to person! This repeated double curved line pattern is my best friend. Remember! Hair grows everywhere! If you want to commit to drawing bears: very hairy people will likely have hair on their shoulders, upper arms, back, etc. Two drawings side by side, the one on the left is the same shirtless man, flatly colored, while the drawing on the right is a black and white close up of the previous image to zoom in on the lineart. The text on the image reads: typically, the denser the hair, the darker it will be. Adding a variety of shades is important to selling the look! I personally like to add density into the lineart itself, with the thicker black lines representing the densest areas. For someone particularly hairy, the hair will actually obscure the shape of things like the pecs and abs, so i will paint over or erase chunks of the lineart to show the hair is laying on top of the body. Lines should overlap, especially in the thickest areas.
