Be that as it may, the things you’re pointing neither contradicts or invalidates the point of that paragraph, which is that a lot of Westerners simply do not care about White people being cast as Japanese cartoon characters. That’s still true even if there are also others who *do* care.

Well, the names “Takeshi” and “Iris” don’t exactly scream “Chinese” 😅

As for the “Brock is Black” thing, there actually was a draft of the current write-up that mentioned that little tidbit, but it ended up feeling like distracting non-sequitur and so I removed it.

Given the publication date (November 1999) I’m assuming The Memorial Book of Orange Islands was probably the original source. I don’t know of any other place it would have been printed in before that.

I have not. I don’t have any of their contact info, for starters, and even if I did I’d be asking about episodes that were dubbed a quarter of a century ago and so it’s extremely likely I’d just get some boiler plate answer and then that be it.
