For the last few days I’ve been in Hokkaido, the region on which Sinnoh is based. There’s snow piled up everywhere, more’s on its way, and it hasn’t gotten above freezing once.

This is a great example of how just because an episode's based on a story from the video games doesn't mean it's going to be a great episode. It was fine, but I also didn't really care about Naoto or his problems at all.

The second Johto gym battle's just as good as the first, giving Satoshi some real challenges to have to overcome. I do wish we'd have gotten to see the Gym Leader in more than just this one episode though.

I’ve actually been really enjoying Johto so far. We’ll see how it goes the further along I get but as of right now I’m having so much fun with the show.
I am surprised by how much positivity you are expressing about one of the most infamous arcs of the Pokémon anime!

A fairly standard "help look for a missing Pokémon" story is saved by it giving some much-needed focus to both Kasumi and Takeshi. The above average Masaaki Iwane animation is also a plus.
