I'm putting together a document of TTRPG performers (either players or DMs) in the Seattle area who are available to play in streamed/recorded games. If this applies to you (or someone you know), please get in touch! Thank you.

In honor of spooky month, share a 4 word horror story that only someone in your profession would understand

I'll go first: Six page commercial lease.

There's a lot of dumb shit here but I do feel the pedantic need to point out that Dr Manhattan said literally the exact opposite of this

thiel, man, what the fuck are you talking about

He describes the plot of Watchmen, a 1986 graphic novel involving superheroes grappling with moral questions about humanity against the backdrop of impending nuclear war:

The antihero Ozymandias, the antichrist-type figure, is sort of an early-modern person. He believes this will be a timeless and eternal solution – eternal world peace. Moore is sort of a late-modern. In early modernity, you have ideal solutions, ‘perfect’ solutions to calculus. In late modernity, things are sort of probabilistic. And at some point, he asks Dr Manhattan whether the world government is going to last. And he says that ‘nothing lasts forever.’ So you embrace the antichrist and it still doesn’t work.

Thiel later finds biblical meaning in the manga One Piece, discussing how he believes it represents a future where an antichrist-like one-world government has repressed science. He believes that the hero, Monkey D Luffy, represents a Christlike figure.

In One Piece, you are set in a fantasy world, again sort of an alternate earth, but it’s 800 years into the reign of this one-world state. Which, as the story unfolds, gradually gets darker and darker. You sort of realize, in my interpretation, who runs the world and it’s something like the antichrist. There’s Luffy, a pirate who wears a red straw hat, sort of like Christ’s crown of thorns. And then towards the end of the story, transforms into a figure who resembles Christ in Revelation.

Thiel, along with a researcher and writer at Thiel Capital, explored these ideas at greater length in an essay for the religious journal First Things earlier this month.

I find it hard to be sympathetic.
A series of high-profile crimes has helped reinforce that view. The ex-Formula One driver Jenson Button and his wife, Brittny, had a suitcase containing £250,000 worth of valuables snatched within moments of their arrival at King’s Cross St Pancras. In January, the socialite Shafira Huang’s mansion in Primrose Hill, north London, was burgled, with thieves taking more than £10m worth of bespoke jewellery.

Social media is very effective at creating sin-eaters. A sin-eater is different from an ephemeral main-character. It's a recurring "well would you look at that guy" person you see screenshotted on your feed constantly, who is meant to stand in for the evils of some larger group you dislike

What cultural hole do you have that’s a bit weird for your generation?

I have never seen Scooby Doo.

Inspired by a post I just saw in which someone admitted they hadn’t seen a single episode of Friends nor the film Love Actually… what cultural hole do you have that’s a bit weird for your generation?

I’ll go first: I haven’t seen Dirty Dancing.

I don’t like to complain about larger artists stealing my ideas so I guess I’m just throwing this fifteen minute long orchestral piece about the size of Travis Kelce’s penis into the trash.

Personally I might have rethought this title/thumbnail combo
A YouTube shorts thumbnail of Jiri Prochazka with the title “Jiri Prochazka Intense Head”. Jiri has an intense, startled expression.

I heard there was a sacred chord that David played and it pleased the Lord but alas if only the Lord had known that Elvis Costello wrote something similar in 1978

The sad thing is that they undoubtedly thought this lore drop made them look impressively knowledgable rather that breathtakingly stupid and totally unaware of even the most basic elements of the craft they are paid to write about.
