Making healthy choices requires mental energy that I often didn't have before. Now I do, and it's full steam ahead.

AuADHD: I don't read between the lines and I take things literally.

Undiagnosed AuADHD, and trauma meant mental health challenges all my life. Those medications helped, but lead to inactivity and overweight for me, on top of genetic pre-dispostion. Added into the mix was a mentally stressful career.
Since retirement I have made great strides mostly by stopping

Ended up with a UTI. I tried two different places to get tx without success so spent 5.5 hours waiting in ER on Monday. I was exhausted yesterday but doing much better today. Christmas Eve prep is well underway.

Down to Tylenol q 6hrs Yesterday made a dessert, today made lunch. Took my shower without help.

Spouse counted 29 staples starting just left of my left breast, all the way round to the back. They come out in 11 days and are starting to itch. Plus the two stitches per drain hole.

Haven't had any strong pain meds since Friday night. Haven't needed them, and they gave me very negative dreams. Doing very well. The worst is only being able to sleep on my back and needing to have my head elevated 30 degrees.

Feeling much better today. No more incision pain, really, that isn't controlled by just 2 regular Tylenol. Have been dealing with likely the beginnings of a sinus infection since yesterday, so juggling decongestants as well. I take 1mg of morphine just before bed because by then, I'm tired.../2

Surgery happened about a week ago. I am VERY glad that I put myself ‘into training’ beforehand. I am using 1mg of strong pain meds once a day, to get me over the end-of-day pain hump into sleep, otherwise it is Tylenol.

We've started moving stuff out of the two rooms to renovate. For some reason, my right knee and left foot have been *very* painful since Friday, so no walking. Have *not* slept well for two nights. Morale is low. Buying a new mattress topper today, hopefully it helps.

No walk yesterday 'cause my head wasn't there. Appt with the surgeon today. Managed to get a walk in before leaving! 👍🏻 I am very comfortable and feel I will be in good hands. Two-hour surgery, 5-6 days in hospital. +/- 6 weeks to progress from liquids to solids, return to exercise as tolerated.

It looks like the curry/garlic I put in my veg soup, even though I didn't put all that much of either, don't quite agree with my stomach. I am moving my soup meal to lunchtime, to see if that helps. Yesterday it was cold and quite windy, so I put my walk off til the afternoon, but I did go.

Scales revealed the damage was minimal, but I am fasting for a couple weeks. Making a veg soup for fast-day suppers so no decisions to make. Great news: appt with surgeon this Thursday!

Adjusted my schedule so I was still able to do 2 and 2, with a day off in between, but I'll be walking Sunday, too. So next week will be TW/FS, THEN hopefully I'll be able to get to MT/TF.

Once the birthday cake is all gone, I think I'll do a week or two of fasting, just to get back to discipline.

STILL didn't get my M/T/T/F schedule. We found out last minute our shovel guy could come do some urgent work Monday, and Tuesday was generally a shit day for me mood-wise.

But, today was a good walk, so I'm back at it. It'll have to be four in a row this week, though.

So not a cold, but likely allergies. Stopped my Flonase too soon. Did 20 min on the bike yesterday. Today and tomorrow are walks. Friday morning early another 20 on the bike, then Saturday a walk. *Then* I can finally get to my M/T T/F schedule.

Yesterday, a sub-11 minute pace for 2 km. This morning, I felt like shit, I'm coming down with a cold or the flu and I slept lousy and I still managed a full km at sub-11 minutes and the next half-km was at 11:08. Today marked the end of my first 4 weeks. From now on, it's 40 min 4x/week.👍🏻

4 x 10 mins, *and* a sub-11 min/km pace for two consecutive splits: a whole kilometre!

Got a call from the hospital: I was offered a last-minute slot tomorrow for a test I've been waiting on. I jumped at the chance. I finally get to meet the surgeon as he'll be doing the test himself.

Another sub-10min/km 500 metre split today, and a negative split on my second-to-last split. PLUS, I started with a 9, followed by three 10s. My goal is four x 40 min every week.

Busy day. Home-made WWheat pasta with LF Alfredo Sauce for lunch with Caesar salad with the last of the season's lettuce. I left half. It was very yummy for an adapted recipe.

This post will be an aberration.

I'm seeing SO much about these 'No Kings' protests. I seem to be the only person who thinks they are futile. People point to some article about how change can be brought about with x% of people protesting peacefully.

I am not convinced. .../2

Scales held great news this morning, despite many days of exceeding my calorie intake goals. My deep sleep is back in the low single digits. Today is a dog walk, a cardio walk, & finish the vacuuming.

Today was a very good walk, badly needed after that 'I cannot run' downer of a morning.
October 15, 2025 at 3:53 PM
Had a good/bad dream last night. Current, 'cause I'm wearing my exercise clothes, but I'm heading out for a run from the building I was working in when I was *able* to run. I think "I haven't run here in years, but I can do this because I've been running regularly for weeks" and it felt SO good. /2

Have started the arduous task of shopping for new walking shoes. I need wide, waterproof, good for trails 'cause I'm never on pavement. Current shoes no longer made. The sites for stores available to me locally don't allow filtering for width. How can you even DO that? Makes no sense whatsoever.

Yesterday was busy: decorating outside in the morning, winterizing the dock in the afternoon. I've had lots of bowel gas from the Greek salad (tomatoes, onions AND garlic was just too much, looks like). I had to put a warm beanbag on my gut most of the evening. Despite that, I slept great!

It has been a very busy week, but I'm still on track for my exercise. I upped my zone 2/3 minutes to 36 per walk and it's going well.

I'm having fewer sleep interruptions and mid-night wakeful periods, but my deep sleep is hovering around 9-10%, which I find is low.

Well, my closing-my-rings streak was broken yesterday. Still got my steps, though. This morning's walk was very early, because I had a full day ahead of me. I hit my cardio HR zone as I reached the road, and it was just one great tune after another. It was a great start to my day. 13,720 steps!
