I kinda got away from crafts for a while (I’m pregnant now and the first trimester absolutely obliterated my energy) but I am finally tatting again (for at least the next 5 months 😅)!

Pattern is “Queen of Hearts” by Mary Konior

One of my mom’s friends wanted some tatted betta necklaces for his grandkids, so I played around with variations
tatted betta made from blue variegated thread with dark blue glitter n its body, in a clear resin "fishbowl" pendant with a green thread "plant" and shell fragments at the bottom red tatted betta with red glitter in its body, in a clear resin "fishbowl" pendant with a green thread "plant" and shell fragments at the bottom tatted betta made from blue, yellow, and pink variegated thread with translucent turquoise glitter foil in its body, in a clear resin "fishbowl" pendant with a green thread "plant" and shell fragments at the bottom All three betta bowl pendants on a white background

More tatting tips …

I want to add my own: learning to needle tat is fantastic and also not a step on the road to shuttle tatting. If you want to use shuttles, just dive in. But also learn needles!!

Some tips, use size 10 or larger thread in multicolor or ombre with a strong contrast. Sparrowspite & Noobear both have great tutorials (there's a 3rd but I can't remember her channel name). Jane Eborall's website has free patterns & technique pages. SomethingUnderTheBed.com is a bibliography site.

I will say UV resin is not nearly as intimidating as I thought it would be! (It’s certainly easier than epoxy IMHO) Just make sure you have proper ventilation/safety equipment

I think I’m finally getting the hang of these fishbowl pendants #tatting #resincraft #fiberart

Latest attempt at putting a tatted goldfish in a resin “bowl”
Round pendant made of clear resin containing a small fish tatted from orange thread, with a black bead for an eye. There are pastel beads on the bottom of the pendant to represent aquarium glass, and some bits of green string to represent plants.

I don't think people really grasp that sewing is a skill and that textiles are a legitimate subject of study. The whole point of Elle Woods studying fashion merchandising is that it was supposed to be frivolous but it's actually hard and those skills were transferable to Harvard Law.

Further adventures in putting tatted objects in resin—this time I made a fishbowl!
Epoxy disc containing a scene designed to look like a fishbowl. Two orange tatted fish are placed among green thread arranged to look like seaweed, and the bottom of the disc is filled with plastic beads to represent aquarium gravel. The background is made of chunky blue glitter.

Was bored last night so I took new photos of a couple of my vintage crochet doilies, and edited the hell out of them to make pop art collages
4 by 4 grid of 16 copies of the image of a round doily, with the color of the doily and the background changed every time to achieve a "pop art" style. 3 by 3 grid of 9 copies of the image of a flower-shaped doily, with the color of the doily and the background changed every time to achieve a "pop art" style. The center of the grid has a plain white doily on a black background

I wasn’t going to share these because I’m still figuring out the technique, but since it’s International Tatting Day…

Here are my early attempts at casting tatted motifs in resin!

#tatting #InternationalTattingDay #resincasting
#craftsky
Two teardrop-shaped pendants with round tatted motifs suspended in clear resin. One motif is ecru and has an air bubble inside, the other is made of rainbow thread and has three pastel beads above it. There is also a smaller, hexagonal pendant with a butterfly tatted with rainbow thread suspended in clear resin. Two hexagonal pendants showing tatted butterflies suspended in resin. One is an ecru butterfly against a background of copper glitter, one is a gray and purple butterfly in clear resin. The hole for the purple butterfly pendant is on the bottom instead of the top, as the butterfly was accidentally put into the mold upside down

Today's featured item is the Autumn Star. While it might not be autumn colors outside right now, it's a lovely star to add some color to your life.

I admire the audacity with which this recipe buries the lede.

“I made a glow-in-the dark cake!”

“Holy cow, what the heck’s in that thing?”

“Oh, you know. Flour, baking powder, some other stuff…”
