The Commander-in-Chief could have stopped it without calling out the military, but chose not to. The spineless Republicans, even those whose lives were in danger, still chose not to convict. If they had we wouldn’t be in this mess today. They could still stop it but choose not to.

Trump just recently stated that during the shutdown he plans to eliminate all Democratic programs. This isn’t about efficiency, this is about revenge, pure and simple.

Some of the kindest most charitable people I know are atheists and agnostics. I know good Christians, Jews, and Hindus as well, but some of the meanest, most hateful, and least charitable people I have met have been Conservative ‘Christians’. These are also the ones who use Scripture as a weapon.

Even the Bible says we are judged more by our actions than our words. Jesus’ parables of the Good Samaritan and the man with two sons (both told to work in the vineyard; one refused, but went, the other agreed, but didn’t go) demonstrates this. The best people don’t announce their actions, but DO.

Their agenda continues on pace. They will get vaccines, clean water, access to healthcare, good food, etc. while those of us making less than $1 million per year will eventually get sick, starve, and die of pollution, preventable diseases, and accidents. Then who will do the work?

Because there is no ‘art of the deal’. Even the ghostwriter who wrote Trump’s book (Trump is obviously not literate enough) has publicly stated there is no art, no compromise, but just whine and bully until he got his way. This is what he is doing now.

After his disastrous first term several Republicans actually stated that there was never a ‘better, cheaper’ alternative to the ACA in the works. He makes promises without details, fails to fulfill them, then blames the Democrats. We now have had two shutdowns with total Republican majorities.

These are the same people who also do not see systemic racism and sexism in this country, and do not believe they have ‘white privilege’. I am an old white guy and it is obvious to me. All one has to do is open one’s eyes and look around.

My fear is that Orange One will so annoy the rest of the world to the point they will make trade agreements among themselves and leave us out of the loop. Since we can’t be self-sufficient if that happens we will quickly become on of the ‘sh*thole’ countries he railed about last term.

I am an old widowed white guy. I grew up during Civil Rights, Women’s Liberation, and the Stonewall Riots. I am not afraid of any group of people except MAGAts (who choose to be hateful and violent, and are mostly white) simply because I know ‘others’ and they aren’t that different from me.

I don’t understand the shutdown, as Trump has stated we got $8 trillion in tariff revenues and $17 trillion in investments. Since it takes $6.7 trillion to run the country for a year the money our fearless leader has claimed we received would run the country for 3.7 years. Where is that money?

According to Scripture, only those who truly repent of their sins and make retribution are forgiven. I’ll believe God has forgiven him once he serves his time in prison and never does it again. Trump, on the other hand, is not forgiven because he is unrepentant, yet his followers say God chose him

Given that ‘woke’ means being aware of and against social injustices Jesus would classify as ‘woke’. Many if not most of the people who are calling for horrible acts against immigrants, minorities, LGTBQ people, etc. consider themselves ‘Christian’. The hypocrisy is overwhelming.

It may not be unconstitutional if the teachers are presenting the TOTAL impact of Christianity in America, such as religious persecution of non-Christians, the Salem witch trials, forced ‘conversion’ of slaves and indigenous peoples, and even the number of immigrants fleeing ‘Christian’ persecution.

Only in authoritarian regimes are law-abiding citizens arrested and detained for reporting on or speaking out against wrong-doing. Since that is happening here with increasing frequency I would have to presume we are now a dictatorship.

For the past 8+ years he has been telling us exactly what he intended to do, so all I can figure is that his supporters hate Liberals, progress, education, accurate news, LGTBQ people, science, facts, and immigrants SO MUCH they would rather the country burn than give equality to ‘others’.

I am an old widowed white guy that has gay friends and has met a number of trans people. They are just people, as flawed as the rest of us. I try to live by Jesus’ teaching of loving and accepting everyone for who they are, and leaving judgement to God alone, but the MAGAts do make that difficult.

Yet many active service members and veterans voted for this, even with full knowledge of the shutdown the first time around and the Orange One’s own statements as to his plans if reelected.

In spite of the administration’s claims, a huge ‘violent radical Left’ is highly unlikely for the simple reason it is easy to radicalize and incite violence with a message of hate, fear, and ‘us vs them’ but not so easy with a message of progress, acceptance, and equality for all.
