This week I've been acquainting myself with a new journal!

It's so cute - it has a bunch of pages with varying designs, along with some uplifting quotes. The paper is on the thinner side and there's ghosting, but it handles inks and felt pens well and there's no bleed. I like it!

Adoubement / #319 14 January, 1904(Risen Burgundy) Your duke's ransom spills across the grey stone of the Gravensteen like the blood of a kingdom entire. The city shudders beneath you. The stones sing your name. All along the walls and watchtowers, guards raise their herald's trumpets to their lips and blaze a fanfare in your honour, without ever knowing why. A terrible light and vigour swallows the figure of the Last Duchess, as the spirit of the city overtakes her mind and body. The Spirit draws a sword, and the blade is the silver of an undisturbed canal. It raises the weapon, and the angle of the hilt is the transept of Sint-Niklaas'. The flat of the blade lands on your shoulder and the weight is almost crippling – the hopes, lives, loves of a duchy. Then the weight abates, and the light fades, and the dimness of the Roof swallows the ceremony. The Last Duchess is wan, and almost staggers as she sheathes the sword. When you rise, you do so as a Knight, with all of the attendant responsibilities and privileges. You are permitted to kiss the Ducal hand, and the guards touch their forelocks as you pass.
