Aspiring to bring free and easy to use animation tools to everyone.
As for right now, I am no longer continuing the support of the android application. After a hiatus, the project will be started again for desktop devices and be open sourced. Every avenue has been attempted with Google with no success. After that, a web version will be made for more devices to use!

Let me know if you have any issues installing. Development for this android build will likely cease due to us not being able to publish on Google Play. We are beginning a build of DoodleStar for Windows, and will likely release something functional in 4-6 months. Keep on doodling!

Apologies for the delay everyone, but we now have a link where you can install the DoodleStar APK to android devices. Completely free and ad free. Get it while you can, Google may prevent APK's from being downloaded come next year.

It will take time to start fresh again, but we will be exploring new options to release DoodleStar on new platforms. Thank you for all of those who have come along for this journey. And let's continue to make animation tools more accessible to everyone.

It is a very sad day here. It looks like we are locked out of google play development for the foreseeable future, with no way to appeal, or start fresh. We have a working app, and plan to release an apk file you can download to use it, while you still can on android devices.
September 27, 2025 at 12:01 AM
Umm... The release is gonna be delayed for a bit longer than I hoped... Currently appealing, hang tight!

Welp. Still here waiting for Google to give the green light. The time frame is in their hands. The moment we're approved, we'll go live. And an announcement will be made here.

I'm happy to finally throw out a release date for Doodle Star. September 22nd, the first day of Fall, on the Google play Store. Here's hoping we don't get delayed on Google's end. Hope to see everyone doodling soon!

We've cleared a lot of bureaucratic hurdles and are getting closer to a full release. Doing some final touchups now on a bit of everything. In the next 1-2 weeks, I will try to open private testing to anyone interested. Shoot me a dm if you're on android and you'd like to be an early tester.

All we have left before release is a few minor display bugs to fix. And maybe fine tuning a couple features. Aside from that, we're ready to let ya'll animate here soon :)

While I really wanted to publish Doodle Star in August, I'm waiting on bureaucracy to get my Google Play page up. It might push our release another month out at worst. But no matter what, September is our release.

Completed a 1st round of polish and a 2nd round of polish. Began device testing and fixing issues happening on different device types.

With stress testing, a critical memory issue was found that crashes the application if you have too many frames. This has been patched.

Wanted to give an update because it's been awhile. Nearing the end of polish now. Currently on track to attempt a release later this month. I'll be wrapping up polish and doing final testing soon. I will also be preparing the app for the Google Play store.

Might put a pause on weekly updates for now, as there's not a lot of interesting things going on with polish. I'll try to make posts when something interesting is happening.

This past week:
Did some user testing and found out just how horrendous the UX is. Made improvements in that regard, + polish

Aiming for August on the Google Play store. No set date yet. Working on the final bits of polish now :)

Progress update:
Got through a lot this week.
-Added shapes
-Several UI improvements
-Improved color select
-Fixed eraser problems
-Fixed gradients double drawing
-Experimenting with a lazy brush for smoother lines

Key features are now done. Time to polish.

Bonus bug fixes:
- Fixed issue where changing the scale of the pixel brush would find a way to divide by 0.
-I am still not sure how, but exporting with an mp3 would corrupt the whole video. I didn't touch this code. It just decided not to work. It's fixed now, but I'm still perplexed.

A few days ago it was raining. Now the sun is made of sun. I miss the rain...

Anyways, weekly update!
-Adjusted the save feature to include wide formats, square formats, audio, and set fps.
-Added brush preview images
-Added new icons, and adjusted layout.

That is awesome! Love seeing people trying to keep the flipnote art style alive. I tried using Godot for the 2nd remake of this app. Had some trouble with the limited android features available sadly though. So made the switch to Android Studio.

Appreciate the kind words :)

It's honestly been in the back of my mind for awhile to set one up. I'll likely have one made and announced just before launch.
June 29, 2025 at 2:14 PM
Another week, another progress update.

Here's a few things that were added:
-Circular and linear gradients
-Basic color management
-Scale slider for pixel brushes
-Merge layers & toggle visibility
-Selection & move tool
-Invert colors

Adjusting UI next week.

It's been awhile. But I have a progress update! I'm entering the final stages of development for DoodleStar. Tweaking the UI and adding some last minute features. Expecting to release it to Google Play between Summer and Fall of this year. #flipnote #art #animation

Development might be slow while I'm learning Godot, at least I'm running into a lot of fun bugs. #art #flipnote

Updates may be slow as we are transitioning to a new engine. We want to bring free and easy to use animation to as many platforms as we can. Have a sneak peek at a rough mockup!
