0 days since he's cried in his office.

When will this start getting easier. . . ?

"I'm glad to hear it."

Miles pressed his face into Phoenix's hair and sighed contently.

"You make me happy too."
doomedprodigy.bsky.social
His giggling made Miles chuckle.

"Aren't you such a a giggly thing, hm?"
doomedprodigy.bsky.social
"I don't mind spicy, actually."

He lightly squeezed Phoenix.

"Well, do let me know what you come up with. Then I can make us a shopping list."
doomedprodigy.bsky.social
Miles leaned his head back in thought.

"Not really. My stomach can be a bit sensitive at times, but I wouldn't worry about it too much."
doomedprodigy.bsky.social
"We'll see. I wouldn't mind keeping you company, though."
doomedprodigy.bsky.social
"I hope so, I'm a bit useless in the kitchen. But at least it'll be used now."
doomedprodigy.bsky.social
"Mm, good. I'm glad."

He pulled back to look at Phoenix.

"It's the weekend tomorrow. Why don't we go shopping together so we can make dinner at my apartment?"
doomedprodigy.bsky.social
That made Miles smile. He pulled Phoenix on top of him and buried his face in his shoulder.

"Oh, Meine Liebe~"
doomedprodigy.bsky.social
"I'm simply being honest, love."

He gently moved Phoenix's hands out of the way.

"I love you."

Edgeworth walked over to the nearby chair and sat down. He still kept his gaze down.

"I don't know what else to do. . ."
doomedprodigy.bsky.social
It took him a moment to enter, he hadn't been in this office in years. He reluctantly crossed the threshold, still keeping his eyes down.

". . . Von Karma berated me again. I. . . I can't take it anymore."
doomedprodigy.bsky.social
— It was days later when he knocked on the door to the office. He kept his eyes on the floor while he waited for an answer.
doomedprodigy.bsky.social
Edgeworth stared at the card in disbelief. He hadn't seen one of these cards in eleven years. He didn't even think that office was still in operation.

He curled up in his chair and began to cry again. Too many emotions were swirling in his head, too many thoughts ran through his mind. . . —

Edgeworth finally whipped around to glare at April.

"Don't you DARE bring up my Father! You know nothing!"

Clearly it struck a nerve.
doomedprodigy.bsky.social
Edgeworth seemed to shrink under her gaze. He picked at his sleeve.

"I've seen it happen. I've experienced it first hand. And I refuse to let it happen again. A von Karma's—"

He snapped his mouth shut immediately.
doomedprodigy.bsky.social
"No. That's not true."

He tugged at his sleeve, the seam straining under the force of it.

"Criminals get set loose all the time. I can't let that happen again. It's my job to make sure every defendant his declared guilty."
doomedprodigy.bsky.social
Just the sight of it sent a wave of emotions through him. He turned away and covered his face with his hand.

"No. I-I can't do that. All you do is defend criminals, I would never stoop that low."
doomedprodigy.bsky.social
Edgeworth found himself leaning into her gentle touch.

"I don't have anywhere else to go. . . I've been studying to be a prosecutor for eleven years. I. . . What am I supposed to do?"
doomedprodigy.bsky.social
His grip tightened on his arm.

"I can't do that. . . I wouldn't have my badge if it weren't for him. If I left him, h-he would take everything from me."

Edgeworth sobbed.

"I would have nothing. I would 𝘣𝘦 nothing."
doomedprodigy.bsky.social
— reached for his arm and squeezed it.

"He berated me in his office for an hour. Told me how careless and worthless I am. nd that I'm a disgrace to his legacy."

His fingers dug into his arm.

"No matter how hard I try, I can never please him."
doomedprodigy.bsky.social
Edgeworth followed and sat down in the chair. He looked down at his lap as he spoke.

"I. . . had an investigation. I didn't sleep well last night, so I was a bit tired while I worked. I. . . missed some crucial evidence that the defense found. My mentor found out about it and he. . ."

His hand —

Edgeworth nodded softly. His hair still obscured his eyes but the tear tracks made it clear he was still crying.

"Please. . . If it's not too much trouble."
doomedprodigy.bsky.social
Edgeworth went stiff at first, he wasn't used to physical touch like this. But slowly he let himself relax and awkwardly hugged her back.

"I don't think it will be. . ."

He sniffled again.

"It's been so hard. . ."
doomedprodigy.bsky.social
— gripped his arm. He sniffled softly.

"Is. . . that offer still available?"
