Very proud of my daughter who refereed her first football games today - complete with a yellow card for a coach who wouldn’t stop shouting about a decision when warned. He was quiet after that (probably shouldn’t take that to stop an adult from shouting at a 16 year old ref in a pre-season game).

Good piece on an interesting new Charter case from the High Court.

(Not sure how many Charter nerds there are left in the wild)

The killing of Chhoeung Chheng is the first murder of a journalist in Cambodia for 10 years. Like the last two journalists who were killed, Chheng covered illegal logging and environmental issues.

His suspected killer is believed to be a logger.

Very hard to describe what a beautiful night it was at the football last night.

First North Melbourne AFLW flag, first ever invincible team, 5th flag for North Melbourne.

To top it off, a young cancer survivor and fan lifts the cup with the captain and coach.

So today, like every year on 12 November, I reflect on the courage of those young people at Santa Cruz and the role they played in winning freedom against the odds. Viva Loriko Aswain! (pic via ETAN)

While the massacre was devastating to the youth resistance movement in the short-term, it is widely acknowledged as one of the turning points in the occupation and in the struggle for East Timorese independence.

The iconic image at the end of the footage, of the young man cradling his injured friend, is now memorialised in a statue on Dili's waterfront.

Astonishing, the injured young man survived and saw his country become independent in 2002.

The protest at which the massacre took place was the culmination of the first uprising of young East Timorese people that started in 1989 with the visit of the Pope.

Those brave young people became known as the Lorikeet Warriors, or Loriko Aswain.
