The author manages to both paint an eerily prescient vision of future Palestine AND woobify missionary colonizers. There's a time and space portal called The Pope Door. It pisses on Keats' memory. It contains one of the most heartbreakingly beautiful love stories I've ever read.

Today I was reminded of the most absolute batshit book I've ever read, "Hyperion." I recommend it to people occasionally in the way someone might recommend running a marathon once in your life. It won't be pleasant but you'll come out the other end with a better understanding of your limits

also can we talk about how the "research university" model is so fucking weird like you're only considered to be "good" at professor-ing if u work at a R1 and teaching schools/teaching profs are looked down upon / receive less support as if teaching isn't the most important thing in EDUCATION

I am under 35. All of my higher-ed teaching experience was within grad school so fairly recent. I am not some crusty boomer. And I have seen this. It has gotten worse! Far worse!

What I'm currently dealing with

A poorly drawn graph showing availability and motivation vs time of day. Availability is high through the morning, zero in afternoon and evening, large spike in late evening before tapering off. Min/max are adulting to alone and unoccupied. Motivation is almost inversely proportional except an hour or so in late evening. Min/max are eepy to brain gremlin awake. The short period of overlap is labeled "Goldilocks zone- 90% of writing happens here"
