My house in ACNH decorated as the blue lion classroom. My villager dressed at Byleth is at the front desk. A friend's villager dressed as Dimitri sits at a desk and says "Professor!" Our villagers dressed as Dimileth have tea under the aurora which I didn't realize even existed in this game Our villagers dressed as Dimileth in the goddess tower. During a battle near Duscur, King Dimitri and the Ashen Demon are separated from their allies. They are forced to call a temporary truce and spend a few fateful days together. It may end up helping Dimitri find some peace of his own.

The ring was almost plain when compared to the sapphire and diamond encrusted dagger that now hung on her belt. After over a decade's worth of teasing over his gift-giving skills, Dimitri had actually managed to end up with the one girl that would prefer a dagger to jewelry. Perhaps that meant they were soulmates. Perhaps the universe just couldn't resist one more fuck-you to Sylvain.

“Before you go, could you open a window?” she asked. “Will you not be cold? The calendar may call this spring, but in Faerghus, the chill will persist for a while yet.” “I’ll be fine. The air just feels so close sometimes, and the walls...” She only partially suppressed her shudder. Understanding— and then, to her dismay, pity— dawned on his face. After a moment’s consideration, he walked over and grabbed the foot of her bed. She nearly tumbled backwards out of it when he lifted the giant four-poster off the ground. “What—!” With seemingly no effort at all, he pulled the bed over to the double doors that led to the balcony, catching rugs that came along for the ride across the room. The heavy drapes were not just flung open, but ripped down entirely. Then he opened one of the farther windows, so that it would let in fresh air but not blow the cold onto her directly. The stark winter light streamed through the glass, illuminating the entire bed so that no part of her dwelled in shadow. She felt like a flower soaking up the sun after a storm. “I have no experience being imprisoned, but flames... They always take me back to...” He cleared his throat, shaking free from whatever horrors flashed behind his eyes. “Hopefully this will do for now. We’ll see about getting you quarters that are less confined.” “I— you don’t need to go through all that trouble,” she said. Truthfully, that sounded wonderful, but Dimitri was a king, not an innkeeper. He undoubtedly had more important matters to attend to than her lingering paranoia. “It is no trouble. I have rooms in mind, and they are already empty.” His tone was kind, but brooked no argument, either. Like his words, when spoken aloud, became law, oath, and duty combined. “In that case... Thank you, Dimitri.”

It would take several days to get back to the academy from Gronder, but the travel hadn’t dimmed the victorious Blue Lions’ exuberance in the slightest. A wistful smile played on Dimitri’s face as he watched Ashe and Annette pull Dedue away from his self-imposed cooking duty and into their circle, laughing as they danced around the campfire. Dimitri sat apart, but for once, it wasn’t to brood in his dark thoughts alone. Next to him, the light of the fire flickered across the professor’s face, alternately highlighting her wide eyes, her glossy hair, her full lips that had finally learned to smile... Normally, shame or propriety forced him to avert his eyes quickly. Or his ghosts would scold him for his distraction. But just this once, he let his gaze linger on her. The dead had been strangely silent as of late. Perhaps he should have felt guilty for neglecting them, but the warm comfort of the professor’s presence soothed his conscience. So many unlikely coincidences had aligned to bring them together that he was tempted to think it was fate. “Professor, forgive my impertinence, but there is something I have been wondering for a while...” She turned to him and tilted her head, accepting and open, like she always was. “Why did you choose to lead the Blue Lions? I was surprised, given how highly sought after you were by all the house leaders. Edelgard in particular was quite... persistent.” She honored him with a subtle smile. The mesmerizing sight was becoming more and more common. Still, his heart thumped so hard he could hear it in his ears, not yet accustomed to the radiant warmth of her smile. He doubted it ever would be. “The other colors clashed with my hair,” she replied. He snorted in disbelief. “Surely not!” “It’s true. I didn’t realize what an important decision it was back then. My emotions were...” "Yes, I remember.” It was sometimes hard to believe the woman next to him was the same mercenary he’d met in Remire. In the darkness, a surge of boldness coursed through him, and the dangerous question that burned on his tongue tumbled out. “Now that you know, would you... choose us again?” She truly surprised him then, placing a warm hand over his bloodstained, scarred one. “I’m right where I want to be, Dimitri.” “I—” he sputtered, jaw hanging slack, unable to form any further words. The unguarded yearning he felt was surely written all over his face as he stared back at her. “Besides,” she added, bumping her shoulder into his playfully. “Turns out, the professors don’t even wear the class colors.”

He appeared more amused than intimidated. Much of his time was probably spent threatening others, so he might have simply developed an immunity. “And if you so much as touch Lady Edelgard with your brutish paws, I’ll kill you before you can blink, as well as your precious Miss Azure.” For a moment, they stared each other down with fury burning hot in their eyes. Dimitri blinked first. “What fools we are,” he said, deflating. “Posturing over two exceptional ladies, either of whom could defeat the pair of us quite handily.” To his surprise, Hubert actually chuckled. “Indeed. But let us nevertheless hurry to their aid, in the event such unworthy disciples as ourselves might prove useful.”

Death by a thousand cuts.” It took only one cut to kill Dimitri, though. One moment of vulnerability to drive a dagger through his heart. Byleth should know; she’d seen it happen. Wracked with guilt over her perceived failures, Byleth leaves her students behind after the war. But when a joyous occasion takes a tragic turn, she is forced to face Dimitri-- and her past.
