Technically you can run your own.
In practice running your own is Incredibly Hard compared to, say, running Mastodon.

Technically you can't get banned if you do run your own.
In practice decoupling things to that degree is unnecessarily hard on top of the above.

The tech doesn't work.

Generally speaking, I don't think social media really wants you to do something so simple as simply catch up on your timeline. Because that way you eventually read it all and you stop Engaging With Content. See also: Algorithmic feeds and the like x.x

I have good memories of Shinobi but don't know if it holds up. Donald Duck and the Lucky Dime Caper if you want something cute that isn't too hard. Mickey Mouse and the Castle of Illusion was another fave, but it's verrry similar to the Master System version if you've played that.
