Even though abx are essential for source control from the biological perspective, I would suggest separating them to allow for a more practical & didactic perspective for trainees to address abx timing, type, dosing in an exclusive “cognition lane” distinct from drainage, device removal, surgery.

Another common reason for meeting futility at the DSMB is the overestimation (clinically unrealistic) of the pre-specified treatment effect.

Correct - in addition they have no activity (alone or in combination) against endemic mycoses (dimorphic fungi), which are the most common causes of fungal pneumonia.
