Ailithyians start being able to use magic around 10 years of age, and even then, only small spells. As they grow up, so does their potential expand.
Those that want to be wizards can either seek out a school or a mentor. After graduating, they go on to travel, solving problems in towns on the way.

Don't write for an audience. Make the comic for you. Feed your brainworms. Make it something you would read and obsess over forever. You'll be working on this thing for a long time, if you lose interest halfway through, then the rest becomes a slog.
