May 2025 breaks an unprecedented long sequence of months over 1.5ºC above pre-industrial

🌡️ May 2025 was the second warmest May globally

📈 May 2025 was 1.40°C above the estimated 1850-1900 average

🌊 SSTs were the 2nd highest on record for May, with an extreme marine heatwave in the North Atlantic

The marine heatwave off the coast of Ireland is pretty severe at the moment. Temperatures are about 3ºC above normal for this time of the year. Source: www.marine.ie/site-area/da...

There is an enormous gap between what the Irish government says it will do on climate, and what it is actually getting done. There is an even bigger gap between what it says it’ll do and what science says needs to be done.

So after quite a few weeks investigating Ireland’s culling of badgers to control TB, I found data that shows that a staggering 80% of the protected species killed by the Department of Agriculture were TB free. jrnl.ie/6709659
Over 80% of badgers culled in government TB programme found to be free from the disease
More than 8,000 badgers destroyed by DAFM in a nation-wide crackdown to eradicate bovine tuberculosis were found to be infection free following post-mortems.

“A colossal missed opportunity” - a clear message in a new report from from Ireland’s fiscal and climate advisory councils.

Instead of taking action to cut emissions (making energy cleaner & more secure, & diversifying farming) we face €26 billion in compliance costs to meet EU targets

Tropical Cyclone #Alfred is forecast to make a sharp turn westward towards southern Queensland, Australia in the coming days.

Landfall is likely north of #Brisbane later this week.

A powerful easterly swell and heavy rain could bring coastal flooding from Wednesday as Alfred nears.

Particle levels in homes in L.A🧵
Plot has 3 useful pieces of info:
1) compare in burn zone --> adjacent to burn zone --> distal
2) compare indoor (grey) v. outdoor (green)
3) compare levels to EPA thresholds (blue and red dotted lines)

What these nihilistic vandals are doing to dismantle science & medicine—generations of expertise & public service & life improving benefits—is cultural revolution level national self harm. No foreign foe could inflict such brutal damage & senseless suffering on US so fast & effectively & unresisted.
