Not from Michigan, and not sure I know anyone who is, but if you're out there, HB 4938 is a special kind of heinous that disguises the censoring of the LGBTQ+ community (especially trans people) in a sweeping "porn ban" that will also cut access to education materials. Everything about it is bad.

Okay. I need an angel investor to give me $100K to start up a niche bookshop that also has a decent community space and maybe a coffee cart with offices for a publishing company upstairs. We'll employ my kids and all their neurospicy friends and they can learn valuable life skills in a calm setting.

I'm trying to set up a space where I can film content, and I have put more thought into the aesthetic of this small space than I have the rest of my house. Any day now the hyper focus is gonna slip and I'm gonna just throw up my hands in defeat and it'll go from carefully curated to eclectic AF.

“Why not just have AI do it all for you?” is not the proper response when an author is talking about the copy writing side work they do to support their career. Calling said side work “real work” and the novels “fun writing” is also not the vibe.

Some of the panelists invited by the FDA to discuss SSRIs and pregnancy claimed that antidepressants don't work at all and depression goes away on its own. One suggested that depression was not an illness, but rather a product of “women just naturally experiencing their emotions more intensely.”

I was recognized in public today! I was at the Ren Faire, waiting for Jacques de Whipper to take the stage, and a woman a few people down goes, "Weren't you at Book Bash? I bought your books!" I was so delighted! And kinda wished I hadn't been eating a giant turkey leg at the time, but oh well.

A California federal judge ruled Thursday that three authors suing Anthropic over copyright infringement can bring a class action lawsuit representing all U.S. writers whose work was allegedly downloaded from libraries of pirated works.

The filing alleges that Anthropic, the Amazon-backed OpenAI competitor behind the chatbot Claude, “violated the Copyright Act by doing Napster-style downloading of millions of works.” It alleges that the company downloaded as many as seven million copies of books from libraries of pirated works.
