This raid is what Kavanaugh stops look like in practice. They targeted the track because it was a largely Latino event, & once the site was secured, separated Latinos from others. But as plaintiffs' legal backgrounds demonstrate, racial profiling isn't a reliable indicator of status. Its just racism
The @ACLU has filed a class action damages suit against federal & state officers over an Idaho immigration raid last October. 200 armed officers raided a horse-race festival, detaining 400 Latinos for 4 hrs. All adults & many teens ziptied & searched.

20 is a film student & she dreams of directing. But, I don’t think she recognizes her natural editing talent. Every time I see one of her videos, I get verklempt. For me, editing makes or breaks any film, & when I was younger (OK, now, too), I had the way I’d edit music videos playing in my head.

Just so we’re clear…this IS what voters wanted. The regret you might see is individual. They regret the one guy let silent parts be said out loud. They regret his narcissism got out of control. None of this was secret. Many would still vote for the same inhumanity - they’d rather it just stay quiet.

So, right now…I am BEGGING FOR ALL THAT IS HOLY to take all that money being put up to “celebrate” the 250th of 1776 in Northern Ireland and use it on something else. This is what you will be fueling, and it is not good. Don’t think of this celebration of “Scots-Irish” culture in the US as positive.
1/3 What Musk is really referring to here is, of course “race” - that construct that served to define the hierarchies of wealth & power structured by modern colonialism. Like other far right racists though, he uses the word “culture” as a seemingly less pernicious synonym.

American culture has always been a patriotic ideological and symbolic invention to unite a people drawn from many different cultural origins, that's why Americans swear allegiance to the flag etc - for its survival the notion of what 'America' is had to be something all Americans can feel part of.

What Rubio describes is not how it went. In the colonial period, free land, religious toleration, "mild govt", fast +easy naturalization so U could bequeath land to heirs were the main reasons peeps came. Belonging was also defined by enslaved importation + Indigenous dispossession.
