Who am I? Professor at teaching uni in NJ, USA (posts my own, not speaking for institution) with focus on voicing #policeofficers’ experiences with #conflict #policing, post-conflict #policereform, & police-community trust dynamics in US & Northern Ireland. I study policing history & current trends.
I just spent 3 hours reading:
1) report after report after report on a particular legacy-related case, &
2) current and proposed legacy-related legislation

Now, because at this point, I am truly torturing myself, it is time to run my already-bleeding eyes over PACE regulations from the 80s. Yeah.

Just going to put this here. I have much to add, but I think this says all it needs to about the failure of a state to uphold Constitutional and human rights.

1) Both REAL IDs and non-REAL ID licenses are not proof of citizenship. Try again.

2) I’ve never been asked for ID when I board a train.
Markwayne Mullin defends "show me your papers": "If you're here legally, there's nothing to hide. Most people already are walking around with a government-issued ID, meaning your Real ID or your driver's license. If you go board a train here, you gotta show your ID."

Ummmm…remind me again who would sort people when they arrived to detain citizens of their own country?

I…can’t…quite…put…my…finger…on…the…name…🤔🤔🤔
More than 400 people, including hundreds of citizens, were “sorted” at gun point into racial and ethnic groups by 200 ICE agents who fired flash-bang grenades into cars with people inside, pointed guns at children & demanded their zip tied parents not comfort them. apple.news/Ausdx6kWtT0e...

About 400 people, including children and U.S. citizens, were detained for four hours while they were denied food and water in the raid, according to the lawsuit.

Local and State Police Can Investigate Federal Agents, But Rarely Do
It doesn’t happen often, but local law enforcement can arrest and charge federal agents. Legal experts say there’s a moral obligation to at least try to hold federal immigration officers accountable w...

Usually something like this would enrage me because women are often subject to abusive mansplaining to police our behavior.

In this case, while I wish a woman had delivered these instructions to the noxious woman who flaunts her obstruction to law and order, I’m glad Raskin let loose on her.
Raskin: "I want the whole country to look at this. This is the attorney general of the US whose job is law enforcement. We've never had a witness who has misunderstood our rules and been unable to conform his or her conduct to our rules before. Excuse me."

BREAKING: The House passed the so-called SAVE America Act which threatens to upend our freedom to vote.

The bill could disenfranchise millions of eligible voters by requiring documents like passports or birth certificates to register to vote and forcing voter roll purges. The Senate must reject it.

Hundreds of federal judges have rejected the administration’s mass detention policy. Last Friday, a divided Fifth Circuit panel blessed it anyway.

What does the ruling mean and why must Congress reiterate that it never authorized this?

From Amit Jain, Mary Holper, & Ahilan Arulanantham:
Congress Should Stop DHS’s Misuse of Immigration Detention
The Fifth Circuit upheld an illegal ICE mass detention policy, deepening a legal and humanitarian crisis that Congress can and must fix.

Truly shameful…when confronted with the lack of attention given to the victims of an AMERICAN human trafficker and sex offender, the move is to pull out the picture of an Afghan man in a sick game of “what aboutery.” She will go down in history for the cruelty she inflicted on victims.
Goldman: "Will the survivors and victims who are here please stand up one more time. By show of hands, how many of you or your loved ones actually have met with the DOJ? None ... How many of you were ignored by the DOJ? All of them." (Bondi responds by smearing Goldman.)
