One of my favourite use-cases for AI is to generate ALT-Text for images that I post on the web. Claude does an excellent job of analysing images. Check out the Alt-Text for the image below.

It's Alt-Text all the way down.

In Australia, Boxing Day is usually spent recovering from a food coma and watching either the Boxing Day Test (cricket) or the Start of the Sydney Hobart yacht race. If neither of these things appeal to you, why don't you listen to the latest episode of On The Reg podcast?
Our technology stacks - what products we use for different problems (Kitchen Table episodes vol 2) - On the reg
Inger and Jason catch up at the kitchen table... in Casa Downs this time. The sound on this one is ok, considering we were in a huge open space downstairs! While Jack Downs washes Inger's new car, she…

Got out of bed today? That’s a WIN.
Brushed your teeth? WIN. Took a breath and tried again? LEGENDARY.

Depression makes every step feel impossible, but you are still moving.

I just had one of those "Holy Crap" moments. I experimented with Google's Gemini AI to create a video from one of my documents. It took the content of the document, suggested scenes in the video, put in transition and other effects, suggested a script and narrated the script over the top. 90 seconds

Opinion | Bosses want to kill off working from home. There’s just one problem with that - The Sydney Morning Herald

I’ve been following Nick Bloom’s work for a few years. He’s always been a strong promoter of WFH benefits.

I can’t imagine ever going back to the soul-crushing commute.

This is brilliant. Man creates animated stick figure on the streets of Toronto by repeatedly going for runs in his neighbourhood and tracking his runs with an app.

Flying to Brisbane this morning for a workshop with University of Queensland. I always seem to struggle sleeping the night before I travel. Last night was no exception.

Tips on how to combat the inability to sleep are welcomed.

Yesterday, I had the pleasure of working with the ECRs from the Monash Law School. We took a tactical look at what we can do in the day-to-day maelstrom of work to gain some control over our day.

Today, I've consciously decided to revisit my amount of Work in Progress and renegotiate. #calm

Planning a ‘Mailbag’ ep for the next On The Reg recording session. If you want us to answer any questions or share specific workflows or tips, write to us and we’ll try and get to them all.

@thesiswhisperer.bsky.social tells me we’ve already got some great mail but we’d love more!

Another episode of On The Reg podcast is up (it came out over Easter) and in it @thesiswhisperer.bsky.social and I go deep on how to develop a writing practice with Obsidian. Great ep - check it out here: www.buzzsprout.com/1187141/1479...
Obsidian! 1996 called and it wants its database back. - On the reg
It's been quite the month.  Jason was pulled over in the Tinny (again),  Inger had a mole taken off her foot. We skipped the mailbag in favour of a deep nerd chat about Obsidian starting at 32:51. The...

Woah. There’s some smart stuff being written about ai. Here’s a few of my take-always:
1. This stuff will be nuts when you begin to chain different ai models together.
2. Some of the 4.0 models are spookily good at mimicking human interaction.
3. Add robots for even more spooky.

Are you “holding it wrong”?

@thesiswhisperer.bsky.social and I go deep on Gen Ai in the latest episode of On The Reg podcast. Inger even whipped up a slide deck!

What we are doing with GenAI now... (it's pretty cool) - On the reg
