What a great program!! The blend of paleo and cultural experiences is a really interesting way to share paleo.

(Part 1) This past weekend, Museum of the Rockies staff led the first ever Browning High School Egg Mountain Eggspedition program at the Beatrice R. Taylor Paleontology Research Area near Choteau, Montana. With excitement and curiosity, students began an unforgettable journey.
A collage of photos showing Browning High School students participating in a paleontology field program at Egg Mountain. The students and staff are outdoors in a rocky, hilly landscape, digging and examining fossils with tools and buckets, listening to instruction, and posing for group photos.

Dear @societyofvertpaleo.bsky.social - I have 2 posters to present this year and they’re both at the same time. I have concerns…

@gondwannabe.bsky.social any thoughts?

Devastating loss.

We lost Mark Norell today. Dinosaur hunter extraordinaire. The coolest dude alive. My PhD supervisor.
Wherever you are, raise a glass of your favorite lager or single malt, as it is what Mark would want.

It’s cooler if you consider it identifying dinosaurs.

For those who weren’t there, this is the face he made when he looked at all the “garbage fossils” I collected on day 1.

I only focus on the positives.

Here it is! I made this doodle based on my travels to Ekalaka, MT to fossil hunt in the Hell Creek formation. Gar scales, vertebrae, and other bits hiding in the hills. We saw a double rainbow! Such a fun week. With @arctomet.bsky.social @museumguyscott.bsky.social @histo-holly.bsky.social et al!
A drawing made with alcohol marker and gel pen of rolling hills with rock layers in shades of brown, pink, orange, and yellow. A stormy sky fills the background creating a decorated rainbow across the middle of the page. The sun peaks out from the top.

I think that’s where I’m going, but it’s hard to get over your first love. 💔

And aquilops was cute.

They had a chance to do something awesome with the scansoriopterygids but chose violence instead.

… I just don’t know anymore. I wish they would either recover the science or end the series. This is just bad though.

And speaking of D. rex…. What the actual f. Did they cross a xenomorph with a T.rex?? If so, where was its little mouth??

But at least they got the limbs right on the Spinosaurs.

And that was just the first 12 minutes.

Why did the dinosaurs relative size change during the shots?

Do titanosaurs become 2D if they’re in tall grass?? Then suddenly they’re gargantuan. Same with T. rex and.. D. rex…..

Finally watched Rebirth and I can honestly say I don’t think we’ll ever recover from the direction these movies have gone.
“We need tissue samples from the 3 largest dinosaurs…” and then lists a mosasaur and a pterosaur with 1 actual dinosaur. Getting basic science facts wrong in the 7th movie 🫠

I’m working on a doodle that is inspired by my summer travels. Can’t wait to share.

Ok, but what if all of academia collapses and the job I spent 40 years working for evaporates overnight?

Dracorex hogwartsia, though problematic today, was my favorite when it was named.
