Happy to share the development, standardisation, and validation of the Mini - Oxford Cognitive Screen, a brief (<8mins) cognitive screen for chronic stroke survivors that is relevant for primary care settings. Now out Open Access in ESJ.

Me too! So happy to have Lincolnshire trusts on board !

As usual we met up with the ‘Belgians’ AKA Prof. Gillebert’s empire for dinner and amazing discussions. Also Prof Randi Starrfelt and Dr Ro Robathom from Copenhagen for much needed catch ups.

Additionally, seeing old colleagues who have moved on to bigger and better places to advance their career, including Ibe Couwels (now in Prof. Céline Gillebert research group) and Valeska Kozik who has competed her PhD with Prof. Kathrin Finke and Prof. Matthias Schwab.

Personal highlights included seeing Paula Grammatikos present her MSc work and how she presented the complicated case of mental capacity assessment. Paula is now moving to Aarhus as as a research assistant to begin with.

Another highlight of the conference was meeting up in person with the FESN Stroke Interest Group and stimulating discussion around cultural impacts on cognitive test performance.

Ok #FESN2025 is over! As always, my favourite mainland European conference. My main goal is to make new connections, meet up with existing connections, and get my work out there. This year I presented the Mini-OCS, which is now fully out there for use with chronic stroke survivors in English..

Hi Chloe thanks for the question- there are overlap in stimuli and tasks between the OCS and Mini-OCS. We don’t yet know what is the perfect time between tasks, if you find out let us know a good range !

Ahead of next weeks Federation of the European Societies of Neuropsychology (FESN) conference in Leipzig, Germany, see our poster showcasing the Mini-Oxford Cognitive Screen. The screening tool is now available for licensing and use. We think it best suits primary care settins with chronic stroke.
drsamswebb.bsky.social
That’s true, and indeed the full OCS is global, but we don’t have translations available. We do have intentions to make the test global via adaptations in the future but we don’t have funding for this currently.

Hi Alba thanks for getting in contact. We need to do some further research to assess feasibility in primary care settings (think, GPs), to establish how best to use it. I’d love to see it rolled out nationwide eventually as part of a 6-month stroke review.

Back to work after Easter break which followed annual leave. Half of my morning was making a todo list from the mass emails received in the last 7-days - soon to actually start! Happy Easter all - lets smash the next few months until summer.

Two grant rejections this week - onwards and upwards! #Reality #Research

Co-production workshops done for the week - such an exceptional experience to hear from a diverse range of healthcare professionals to inform development of our new cognitive screen. Now to decode all of the feedback and make changes!

First one was so good! Such a critical and helpful experience. Looking forward to the next few workshops.

Count down 15 minutes (!!) for my first allied health professional workshop as part of my postdoctoral fellowship funding by the Stroke Association to co-produce a staged cognitive screening tool for stroke.

This academic year, I have submitted two of my first ever NHS ethics applications (one commercial one non-commercial). How different the process is depending on whos paying! First REC meeting today, wish me luck :)

Last push for this, as we approach the end of Jan and these workshops are taking place in Feb :)

Are you a neuropsychologist or clinical psychologist involved in stroke care (rare, I know!)? We could really use your help developing a new cognitive assessment platform on an app - please get in touch if interested :) @donbps.bsky.social

Really quite exciting planning the next few months co-production workshops and how we will get my new cognitive screening app platform off the ground running in next few years. More to come!
