Also bought a new set of World Book Encyclopedias, so chronicling an entry a day to highlight all the good work.
One of those full-of-stuff entries. The pictures are fabulous. Several QR codes to scan for more information which linked to videos on YouTube with even more detail (some of them look like they have been done with student input)

Shortest article I've had to read in a while. A quick little primer on a satyr, with background on which Gods they followed and the behavior. I also learned the Roman name for satyr is "faun", which does make some sense.

I hope to visit this summer is some of the areas of the Rockies. Large mountains have fascinated me, and this entry is a good primer to this large mountain range. I expected more geology though in the entry.

A good amount of detail here on the pencil including types and creation of.
My favorite part is that instead of a contributor, it says it was "Critically reviewed by the Writing Instrument Manufacturers Association." Amazing.

Similar to last post, these entries give good information on an area I don't know a ton about. I have vague recollections of the Sandinistas from back in the 1980s. I didn't know that volcanic ash makes their soil good for coffee.

One of those massive in depth articles on a place that are such a pleasure to read, this entry gave me a lot about somewhere I've never been. A lot on the history, nature, and overall makeup of this province. Lots on Winnepeg also.

Got to visit both locations this past summer. This entry is a very short bit about both battles + just enough detail to acquaint with the events. Decent summary overall.

This is one of those "cover a lot with a small taste" entries that is a bareboned intro to the subject. The entry covers several periods up to modern. It had ones I expected and lacked some others.

I have been to Turkey, but not to Istanbul, and I've always wanted to go. I was disappointed in the size of this article given the rich history of the city. I would imagine there is more under the Byzantine Empire.

I know who Haydn is and some of his works, but didn't know a ton about him, like that he was a close friend of Mozart. He also met a young Beethoven and had him as a pupil. The music world was very connected then apparently.

A useful topic as I'd like to visit Yellowstone next summer. Assuming the government shutdown ends and we have a proper government. Or that we haven't sold Yellowstone to land speculators. The article gives some good visuals.

I picked up a book in New England on a whim from the Olmsted NHS and ended up being a great decision. I don't know if I would have known of this book otherwise, but fits well in my vintage England section of my library.

These big country articles are stunning and hard to do justice with a few images. A lot of history, culture, and detailed maps.
Did not know France was Europe's third largest country by area after Russia and Ukraine.

Got busy a week ago and only now getting back into these reads. Not the most exciting entry today. I have never read his works (maybe The Matchlock Gun, but wasn't certain). At least I know he was born on a farm...

I confess, this article confused me. I was not sure who was being referred to, or if it was just the title. I actually had to Google it. Based on that, World Book seems to have badly undersold him.

Been out of town for a few days so catching up. This entry covers a Native American chief that was apparently around my hometown. I can't say the name rings any bells. I'll have to dig into this topic some more.

This is an entry that crams a large amount of information into a relatively short space. The historical photos used lend a lot of depth to the subject. The Battle of Britain picture in particular was striking.
