I’m happy that enough people are reading Moby Dick that I’ve had two conversations about it in as many days, but the fact that “but *why* is there so much whaling stuff tho?” was part of both really emphasized the media literacy issue for me

“Arbitrage” is a good thriller, but its final confrontation is one of the best examples of how the risk addiction driving billionaires works: 1 - the thing at risk is people’s actual lives, and 2 - these guys could give a shit about 1. They may act like they care, but that is just part of the game.
