Garrett posts his second sack of the day, placing him just a half-sack shy of tying the season record.
Garrett answers in the affirmative.
Perhaps the most interesting question left in the Brown’s season is whether Myles Garrett (leads NFL in sacks) can sack Bears QB Caleb Williams (top escape artist) next week.

That does sound familiar, but getting past (3) is taking forever.
1. An experimental result doesn’t make sense

2. A physicist proposes a radical solution.

3. The solution seems too weird to be real. Everyone assumes it must be a convenient trick.

4. Eventually, everyone realizes it wasn't a trick, and reality is in fact weirder than they expected. (9/n)

And as the OL leaves a hole so big to give up a sack *I* could have made to end the first quarter, I reach for the TV remote and the laptop.
That didn’t take long. Not ten minutes into the first quarter and the Browns have driven the wife to find something less annoying to do than watch them, like clean the kitchen.

Good thing “centrist Democrats struck a deal with Republicans last month to end the 43-day government shutdown in exchange for a vote on extending the subsidies.” Who could have predicted that vote would fail? Aside from absolutely everyone.

Live updates: Health care costs set to rise after Senate rejects extension of ACA subsidies
The Senate on Thursday rejected legislation on expiring Affordable Care Act subsidies. Millions of Americans will see a steep rise in costs if the subsidies expire on Jan. 1.

The universe is full of a seemingly unending number of different things, from subatomic particles to plants and animals to gas giants and supernovae. But where did all of this stuff (for lack of a better word) come from? Let’s take a look.

Republican Senator Sheehy claimed that there are foreign powers “actively attacking this country, using illegal immigration, using transnational crime, using drugs to do so.”

Not those things, but there is a mode of attack via propaganda laundered through useful idiots at Fox & social media.

Impressive. Jalen Hurts just managed to throw an interception and also fumble away the ball on the same play.

Large flares and CMEs are perfectly common and normal around solar maximum as are strong geomagnetic storms. It may "feel" like we are seeing more activity than usual, but this is what an average cycle produces. Solar cycle 24 was anemic in comparison to cycle 25 (current).

TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

The most realistic scene in DS9 is when Gul Dukat whined about how the Bajorans never erected a statue in his honor. A prophetic text.

My model of masculinity will come in one of the pre-chosen forms. During the rectification of the Vuldrini, the traveler came as a large and moving Torg! Then, during the third reconciliation of the last of the McKetrick supplicants, they chose a new form for him: that of a giant Slor!

Full moon on snow.

We got a quarter inch of snow last night. Not enough to warrant shoveling, but enough to make the albedo high, reflecting ~90% of incident sun light. And it is partly sunny this morning, so a quick, lazy science experiment: if I sweep a strip revealing the blacktop (< 10%), will the sun do the rest?
