My one “active shooter” experience was on my last day in Denver. I was closing up the moving truck when I heard gunshots. I dropped to the ground.

It was a cop.

Routine traffic stop.

The car drove away when he approached, so he shot at it.

My conspiracy theory is that those “1-800-COP-SHOT” stickers on every NYPD car are simply propaganda designed to make you think that being a cop is a much more dangerous job than it actually is

If you were looking to get into a new conspiracy theory, Patreon's lead investor is Jared Kushner's brother and his holding company is funded and partially owned by OpenAI

I'll have tons more to say about this later, but the level of support and partnership we've gotten from RED is absolutely incredible. Sub/liminal simply wouldn't be possible on our insanely low budget without them.

I don’t know who needs to hear this but bokeh is pronounced “boke-ay” not “boke-uh”.

From the Japanese “boke” which is short for “pinboke” which means “state of being out of focus.

This is a fun way to end 2025. Pulling stats for an end-of-year thing and I notice we crossed 1 million signups today

Post a perfect album from the ‘90s that isn’t Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, or Alice In Chains.

I like how every scene in the new Stranger Things is people running into a problem and then immediately solving it with an ‘80s pop culture reference and exposition over a rapid-fire montage

Means I can listen while scrolling twitter so I don’t have to look up and notice everyone is 30

My no-fun-at-parties take is that "thursday is a secular weekday" is an uncomfortable way of assuring me that norse mythology is the status quo and everything outside of that is an aberration. Sorry! It's still a norse weekday!! Just because you're an anglo-saxon doesn't make it secular!
My no-fun-at-parties take is that "christmas is a secular holiday" is an uncomfortable way of assuring me that christianity is the status quo and everything outside of that is an aberration. Sorry! It's still a christian holiday!! Just because you're an atheist doesn't make it secular!

AI people fundamentally misunderstand the concept of accountability. I think this is why you see such a strong correlation between pro-AI, religious people, and authoritarianists; they simply prefer to believe that benevolent and unknowable systems, not themselves, are responsible for their failures
In general, with any generative systems, if they’re suggesting humans providing input for the machine to make the final output, vs machines providing options for the human to make the final output, then you should be deeply skeptical. Not “human in the loop”, but “fluent human as authority”.

If you missed @theabigailthorn.bsky.social reading "A Christmas Carol" last night, here's another chance.

The fundraiser is still active, so there's still time to support WCK, a great organization feeding people in places like Gaza & Ukraine
