Sagesight (Viktor) and Goldenheart (Jayce) are brushed up against eachother smiling lovingly at one another. "Would you like to go on a little walk with me?" Goldenheart offers "I found something I think you'd like to see!" Sagesight swishes his tail, amused "Oh? Well by all means, lead the way" Goldenheart has lead Viktor to a beautiful, vast field of wildflowers of all colours. The scene is tinted pink in the afternoon light of the slowly descending sun. Sagesight, shocked, rests his tail on Goldenheart's. "Oh my stars!" Sage exclaims "Goldenheart, this is incredible!" Goldenheart is smiling back at him triumphantly "I knew you'd like it" Sagesight leans into his partner, a paw on his chest as he closes his eyes and licks his cheek appreciatively. "You are the sweetest cat in all the forest" Goldenheart's head is turned slightly lower, bashfully looking back at Sage. "I just thought it would be nice for us to have a quiet place to relax for a while". Sagesight and Goldenheart are now laying in the field, Goldenheart holding onto Sage's braced leg, resting his head on his thigh. Sage is busy cleaning Golden's mane, taking it upon himself to decorate him as he goes. "Hehe... I hope you don't mind me covering your fur in flowers..." Sage says cheekily, tongue out and winking at his sleepy partner. Goldenheart opens one eye, smiling lovingly, "You can do whatever you want to me" Later, at night, Sagesight and Goldenheart are now laying on their backs, in the field, now both decorated with flowers. Sagesight stares, captivated by the night sky, turning further into his partners chest, "Look how brightly the stars shine out here!" Sage exclaims in complete awe, eyes still focused upwards, "Beautiful, don't you think?" Goldenheart smiles, focused entirely on Sagesight "Yeah, Beautiful"

Jayce and Viktor are in the open sea, billions of stars and algae bloom reflect off their forms. Viktor reaches for Jayce from the boat with a slight smile on the face, crying; his hands trail into the water, encompassed by luminescence. Jayce stares into Viktor's eyes, tears are visible on his face and his irises are thin golden rings around the swollen pupils. One of his hands is holding the edge of the boat, the other is on Viktor's neck, drawing him closer for a siren's kiss.

Discord is already starting to walk things back a little, so people should keep doing what they're doing (cancel Nitro, leave feedback/criticism, direct contact through support tickets/phone/email/etc)
Tl;dr: The vast majority of adults will never have to interact with our age assurance systems and their experience won't change, because we know Discord and how people use it, so we're designing to respect privacy and deliver a safer experience while minimizing friction for adults. Hey folks – I’ve been on Discord since very early 2016 and actually joined the company in 2017. Safety is one of my areas, so today’s announcement on our blog is something I’ve been pretty involved with. I’ve always cared about Discord's approach to privacy (E2EE for A/V was another of my projects here), so I figured I’d add some more context to today's news. I can say confidently that the vast majority of people will never see age verification. I say this because we launched age assurance in the UK and Australia in 2025, and we have some pretty good data on this now. The idea here is that we can pre-identify most adults based on what we already know (not including your messages!), and that looks to get us pretty far here. No face scans, no IDs, for the vast majority of adults. And if you are one of the smaller subset of folks that we can't definitively pre-identify, then still, you only have to do it if you're accessing age-restricted servers or channels, or changing certain settings. That's really not most users. (Altho... might be more Redditors, tbh.) Last, I know that there is concern about privacy and data leaks. That's a real concern. The selfie system is built purely client-side, it never leaves your device, and we did that intentionally. That'll work for a bunch of users who aren't pre-identified as adults. But if you do end up in the ID bucket, then yeah, you're right that has some risk. We're doing what we can to minimize this by working with our range of partners (who are different partners than the data leak you read about), and if it's any help, we learned a lot internally from the last issue. But I get if that doesn't necessarily inspire more confidence. Anyway, we’ll be sharing more next month as we get closer to the global roll out about the system, including the technology behind it in March. I honestly wouldn't be happy if we didn't build something good and I am excited about what we’re launching, but please let us know what you think when we share more details. And I really appreciate everybody's feedback here today. We’re definitely reading it!

Stalked from the office this evening, jumped on the motorbike, slapped on a #jayvik playlist, raced the sun up the mountain to catch this picture and then zoomed back through starlit rainforest and the city to get home.
