Imagine being dyslexic in Ancient Egypt.

Having to grab another slab of stone because you chiselled 'hawk facing left, snake, man' instead of 'hawk facing right, man, snake'

Hard magic systems being the big thing at the moment has less to do with those actual systems, and more to do with people like Sanderson being good at set up/pay off, and establishing a set of rules is an easy way to do that.

I think this is also why we get films like Saltburn. They mimic the aesthetics of films like Parasite, without understanding that those aesthetics evoke something because they're associated with Parasite, an extremely good movie.
Our culture has real trouble grasping that we can't bring back what it felt like to see The Prisoner/Ghostbusters/Star Wars the first time by doing them again, because the thing that made them compelling is that they were different. We can only feel that feeling again by making more new things.

Saltburn sucked, instead everyone should find a way to watch, or read Victor Roger's 'My Name is Gary Cooper'

Don't miss results just in this month from Earth's biggest UBI experiment: 6,000 people in rural Kenya getting cash. Result: lump sum at the start helped more than monthly payments, but both caused so much growth that even neighboring towns got wealthier, healthier, & safer! #ShareGoodNewsToo
The first results from the world’s biggest basic income experiment
Money always helps, but for the very poor, one lump sum can last a long time.

What concept is at the base of your understanding of the world?

For me it's spandrels, learnt about them first week of uni, now everywhere I go, I think 'oh look, a spandrel'
