Hong Kong fire and Grenfell are just alike. Fire spreading through unsafe building materials installed due to penny-pinching, killing dozens. One difference: before the HK fire is even out three executives at contractors have been arrested, eight years after Grenfell no-one has been arrested.

@keefstuart.bsky.social I just realised that when the relevant Bathysphere came out, you completely ignored to mention the obvious gaming reference to "Expedition 33". I don't know whether this was purposeful elitism or blissful ignorance!!

I never would have guessed how much heavy lifting Underpants Gnomes would be doing this millennia. I believe the young people would insert "wild" somewhere here.

"This is truly extraordinary - the Budget is already out there"

how will these guys react when we first detect alien life - if they think a domestic budget reported a few hours early is extraordinary?

@sundersays.bsky.social can you confirm (or remember) that the line was deleted from the Reith lecture?

Genuinely surprised the BBC are truly that stupid.

This sentence was taken out of a lecture they commissioned, reviewed through the full editorial process, and recorded four weeks ago in front of 500 people in the BBC Radio Theatre.

I was told the decision came from the highest levels within the BBC. /2

I wish I didn’t have to share this. But the BBC has decided to censor my first Reith Lecture.

They deleted the line in which I describe Donald Trump as “the most openly corrupt president in American history.” /1

Trevor Phillips proposes banning "remittances" (ie: imposing currency/exchange controls on international cash transfers by foreign nationals from Britain). He says this would disincentivise immigration, in a Times piece saying the Home Secretary needs to go [much] further

Amusing: Google does not allow its devs to use its newly launched IDE, Antigravity, for development.

Classic example of “externalisation” at Google: they have an *internal* (increasingly different!) version of it, but they won’t use what they launched to everyone else
