It's all meep meep bang bang, how could anything go wrong? Scholarly emo.
There really are few pleasures in life quite like a nice big cup of tea. Yes I am 44 in a month's time, why do you ask?

Anyway, watching the glorious Carry On Up The Kyber, very much the Rogue One of its day.

Hot take I know, but my hat JMW Turner was a hell of an artist, his brother BMW Turner was better for yer technical diagrams though.

Right, that's enough QI XL for now as joyous as it is. Now for this Turner: The Secret Sketchbooks documentary on the Iplayer.

"Come on Geoffrey we need to get to the zoo post haste. If we don't thank a Gibbon by Thursday evening, we'll have to wait a year lest we tricked by Macaque Friday."

Watched episode 4 of #EdgeofDarkness earlier and god Bob Peck was a proper star huh. A real striking litheness of movement during the escape from that computer office and Zoë Wanamaker & Joe Don Baker both absolutely on point too.

My main disappointment with the early James Bond pictures is that when redubbing everyone in sight, they didn't just use the cast of Last of the Summer Wine or similar with thick Yorkshire accents.

Watched another couple of episodes of Hetty Wainthropp Investigates earlier today and blimey they deal with heavy issues for that kind of show - schizophrenia and the care system/mental illness issues.

Anyway winding down the weekend watching You Only Live Twice, so there we are really.

Still angry at the other people earlier today who had the sheer bally nerve to be in Lidl at the same time I was, getting in the way and everything.

Lovely time just now listening to De La Rue's Requiem on CD (Recording of the Clerks group) and reading the thoroughly involving and intriguing Whalesong by Miles Cameron, some right good well 'ard scifi fiction.
November 23, 2025 at 6:16 PM
Watching the Gareth Edwards Godzilla picture from 2014, which is a good time, and I do love how the monsterverse pictures do that trick of redacting stuff during the credits.

Do you enjoy baking and endeavours engaged in colonialist exploitation? Then why not join the Yeast India Trading Company?

Anyway, time for some intellectual heft to one's Friday evening with that gritty representation of 1970s British labour relations, Carry on At Your Convenience.

Honestly if you came up before the bench for knocking off the Asda telly advert Grinch, you'd be let off with a £10 book token.

Chuuff me vitals it's a bit nippy out there.

Another office day means commuting and thus listening to more classic @smershpod.com episodes on the train again, and a particular appreciation of @gralefrit.bsky.social as a guest, very funny and very interesting in terms of writing/theory insight, especially on Thunderball.

"No Geoffrey, the Booker Prize does not mean the winner gets a twenty minute all you can grab sprint around their local cash and carry."

Also gads spoons but that BMW looks bloody awful as a Bond car.
November 19, 2025 at 9:13 PM
Having listened to a good few @smerelman.bsky.social episodes these past few days, I'm having a Wednesday night Bond on DVD, Tomorrow Never Dies, an entertaining lot of old old cobblers that shows the dangers of poor delegation.
