That show scared me as a kid. The fact that my parents liked it also scared me and made me wonder what was wrong with them way earlier than I otherwise would have.

Why oh why does the proprietary/incorrect algorithm suggest Jared Leto wrapped in neon and not Captain Jack Aubrey and Stephen Maturin kick Bonaparte's ass again?

Not the point, but why the hell are two DOJ lawyers booking rooms at a Ritz-Carlton? (Particularly in a city with almost 500 hotels)

Paul Ingrassia, Trump’s nominee to lead the office investigating Jack Smith, has recently been investigated for harassing a colleague, Politico reports.

“Eventually the woman discovered that Ingrassia had arranged ahead of time to have her hotel room canceled so she would have to stay with him..”

In late July, Paul Ingrassia, the White House liaison for the Department of Homeland Security, arrived at a Ritz-Carlton in Orlando with a lower-ranking female colleague and others from their department. When the group reached the front desk, the woman learned she didn't have a hotel room.
Ingrassia then informed her that she would be staying with him, according to five administration officials familiar with the episode. Eventually the woman discovered that Ingrassia had arranged ahead of time to have her hotel room canceled so she would have to stay with him, three of those officials said.

Wisdom from George Saunders, in his newsletter:
It’s interesting the way that the world these days seems to make us feel that we need to have an opinion on everything, even when having a certain opinion may not change anything we do, or anything about the way the world responds.

We seem to be losing the ability or desire to just be silent on certain questions. (Silent and sad; silent and interested; silent and alert.)

"In this conversation with Frank Luntz, Weiss fearlessly calls out the media shibboleths of our time, and celebrates the power of diversity of thought."

[Ed. Note: the only fearlessness I saw on display was Mr. Luntz wearing that sweater (and perhaps one other accessory)]

Man if this isn't the perfect quote re Weiss: “She plays to an audience of 200 people,” one Hollywood executive with ties to Weiss told Variety. “It just happens to be that audience is made up of people like Jeff Bezos and Bill Ackman. The superrich f------ love her"

have said this before but i am very skeptical about weiss’s vaunted charisma

Bari Weiss, the incoming editor in chief of CBS News, once auditioned for a role on the hit daytime television show "The View," but tested so poorly with audiences that she "wasn't invited back," according to a new report.

I'm starting to think a good law school exam would be "produce a single draft that accurately reflects the comments you've received" and the question is a single word document with tracked changes from 8 different people at unspecified times interspersed with comment bubbles.
