I highly recommend the biography of Francis Crick by @matthewcobb.bsky.social if you want to know more about the man behind the myth, or are just interested in the history of molecular biology 🧪

I thought I knew a little about Crick, but it turns out I didn't

Thankyou MacKenzie Scott for showing how million and billionaires should act. Hoarding your wealth versus helping others. 100 years ago people gave generously to hospitals, libraries, universities etc to help their fellow humans rather than saving every penny!
Xavier University of Louisiana announced it has received a $38 million unrestricted gift from philanthropist MacKenzie Scott, marking her second major donation to the historically Black and Catholic institution. https://bit.ly/4abmtom

Watching Lauren Celano talk about the state of jobs in industry. The state of industry is in flux which is due to issues with funding. Funders prefer to support 1 company with a large amount of capital versus 10 companies with less each. ##ABRCMS2025

It is always nice to support friends and colleagues! Watching @biologistbill.bsky.social , Dr. Caleb McKinney and Robin Sugiura present on doing a postdoc or not on behalf of the National Postdoctoral Association. This is always an important talk given each year at #ABRCMS2025.

Just gave my "A Practical Guide To Negotiation" at #ABRCMS2025. I asked my participants to practice negotiating for a hypothetical role. They did amazingly well and asked great questions. I'm looking forward to continuing the conversation at the mentoring tables.

I'm all packed and ready to head to the airport early in the morning! I have only been to San Antonio once so I am looking forward to going again, plus seeing an old friend is an added bonus. I guess that means I am ready for #ABRCMS2025 . I hope to see some familiar faces and make new friends!

With less than a week before #ABRCMS2025 it is time to tailor my "A Practical Guide to Negotiation" presentation. Each time it is specific for the location and audience population. I hope to see you there!

A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

It’s a story of ambition, rivalry and betrayal, including Franklin’s departure from King’s College London and the subsequent publication of the double helix model by Watson and Crick, which was built on insights from her work—yet for which she did not receive proper recognition.

Who knew that fumigating your house while you are away at a conference would lead to so much extra work on the return! I have lost count of the many loads of laundry and we are still moving back all the foods and drinks which were stored elsewhere. Still plenty to do but progress has been made!
