This allows you to give clear instructions to the job board search engine so it can return relevant jobs. The goal is to minimize the need for manual sorting of search outcomes. Save your search terms in a document so you can use them again.

For example: adding a “-” before a word would exclude instances of that word from the listed results. Using -“5+” would omit “5+ years of experience”. This can reduce the amount of irrelevant postings in your results which is a big time saver!"

Keep in mind that recruiters may have a shallow understanding of the job they are filling. Like you, they often depend on the job posting to give them key details. Generally, I would avoid getting too technical or writing a dense resume.

Although it is important to impress the hiring managers (they pick who will get the job), your primary concern should be the recruiters. The recruiters’ job is to remove applications from the pool, and the largest cuts are made in the first stage. Write your resume with them in mind."

A theme of “getting a new job” can be used to inform your decisions throughout the year. For example, you could refocus on networking within your social circles or rework your resume when no one is posting jobs. Goals get tossed aside while themes can have more lasting power."
