I worked for a volunteer-heavy nonprofit after undergrad and found out that I didn't want to deal with people's silliness all day.

I pivoted from Counseling Psychology to I/O because I liked learning about people's jobs.

This can be especially bad during an employers market. On the flip side, some industries are nervous about hiring overqualified individuals over concerns that they will have to pay them more.

Although the job posting says Bachelor’s degree they may only look at applicants with a Masters. It can be tough to tell if you are in this situation, but consider avoiding these jobs. It may take finesse, but weaving in a connection that you share with your interviewer will make you stick out to the interviewer. This could be where you are from, went to school, hobby, or shared birthday (that happened to me once).

Sometimes you come across similarities or shared experiences. These are great to slip into conversation to help with rapport building. AI is being used in wacky ways. I doubt the AI folks fully know what is going in.

I doubt adding key words in hidden places will help. Most ATS have candidates upload their resume into a standardized format. The added words would get placed in odd places, which is not good.

If you have ambition for greater responsibility or promotion but your company will not budge, then it is time to move on to a new company location or an entirely new job. Hiring managers love external experience. Do not be surprised if you get a pay bump."
