Say to those of a fearful heart: Behold! The Lord your God shall come.

Poverty is a policy choice. Concentrated wealth is a policy choice. Inequality is a policy choice. None of it is natural or inevitable. Remember: We have the power to build a system that serves the many, not the powerful few.

On hope and hopelessness for the Third Sunday in Advent.
It's Gaudete Sunday, but I'm striking a less joyful note, I guess.

I'm hearing a lot of younger YouTubers pronouncing the articles "a" and "the" as "ay" and "thee" regardless of what comes after them. Is this a misguided attempt to speak clearly on video, or is it a shift in pronunciation happening IRL somewhere among younger generations? I'm not hearing it IRL.

Sent to my work email. So sweet! You know, if I actually wrote fiction, it would be a lovely email to receive.

Alas, dear spammer, *your* work does not "carr[y] an honesty and emotional depth that feels both grounded and profoundly human."

This was recorded at Theology Beer Camp 2025. (I wasn't there. I like theology, but not beer; although that wasn't the issue. Time & money, as always, right?) So glad they shared this:

Yes, MS Word, I do wish to add both homoousios and homoiousios to the dictionary. Glaring omissions on your part.

The monthly, first-Saturday test of the local alarm system's siren feels strangely comforting: it means we're still in the first week of the month that already seems to be flying by.

The little dead mouse I found in my office was, doubtless, overwhelmed by the number of books—“Where to begin? Oh, where to begin!?”—and its little heart gave out.

Please clap.

I just removed a dead mouse from my office, without having to call my sister to have someone (virtually) there with me.

I hope that was the one that pooped on my desk May've been the one I saw run out of my bathroom (I didn't see which way it went).

I wonder how many more I'll find.

I’m often plagued by some annoying tune in my head that goes on for days, but…the old Geritol jingle? Really?

(I guess you’re “not too young for Geritol” if you remember those commercials.)

...and compromised their own principles of liberty for all by enslaving people and carefully working the institution of slavery right into the foundation of this nation.
By today’s standards, the Founding Fathers were unauthorized immigrants who invaded sovereign land, imposed foreign governance, & violently displaced Indigenous nations

Forgive me...I need to scream this into the void:

Just because you know how to use graphic design software doesn't mean you know how to design.

If you fall for a billionaire telling you to hate your neighbors, especially if you claim to be Christian, I don't know, man. That's pretty stupid.

Tomorrow's Thanksgiving?
It's 37F outside?
Fine, I'll take the ACs out of the windows.

Dang it, I just realized I have a new-ish poem whose central metaphor is picking pennies up off the ground.

Nickels, then?

From the pest control service. We're actually more concerned with keeping out roaches & mice than with capturing photos, but I see those 3 trying to go up the stairs. Good work.

We know the explanation, though.
1/ ⚠️ Breaking: At CDC, we've been told the US Government will not officially commemorate World AIDS Day this year. No explanation given.

111! Rest in Power, Ms. Fletcher. You earned it.
As a survivor of the Tulsa Race Massacre, Viola Ford Fletcher bravely shared her story so that we’d never forget this painful part of our history. Michelle and I are grateful for her lifelong work to advance civil rights, and send our love to her family.
