Everyone's talking about the EHRC guidance banning trans people from single-sex spaces like toilets + changing rooms... but there is another looming threat in the Levy Review

TL;DR expected very soon; separate under-25 pathway, lays the groundwork for more gatekeeping in the NHS
Screenshot: Review of adult gender dysphoria services One of the recommendations of the Cass Review was a review of the adult service specification. [...] Dr David Levy, Medical Director of Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board, and previously NHS England’s North West Regional Medical Director, will lead the review, supported by an expert panel of patients, clinicians experienced in the delivery of gender-related care, independent regulators and members of relevant professional bodies. Screenshot Levy Review The review of NHS adult gender dysphoria services in England[1], led by Dr David Levy, was announced in August 2024[2], shortly after the publication of the Cass Review. The stated motivation for commissioning the review included concerns about "inadequate, time-limited assessment", weak consent procedures, waiting times, patient demographics, and administrative problems.[3] It is still underway. Though NHS England originally expected to publish the report in spring 2025[4], it has not yet been released as of yet. Internal documents suggest publication may be close. Its likely effects are uncertain, but it may lead to tighter gatekeeping in NHS services, with possible knock-on effects for private clinics, particularly for people under 25.

TL;DR
It is not right that we don't usually have trans-led electrolysis services even in big cities; there are projects to change that; we wholeheartedly support them and would like to encourage more of them.
effecttrans.com
(We're not in a place to organise such a project ourselves right now, but if you do start anything like this please let us know! We would be more than happy to assist both in crowdfunding and in general)
effecttrans.com
We're looking forward to finding out how the Glasgow project goes! This, Siobhan's, and other such projects around the world hopefully can form a blueprint that can be replicated to eventually cover our needs.
effecttrans.com
Such projects could end up very beneficial as per the theme of taking control of our transistions. They would let us build up expertise, provide a way for the wealthier of us to sponsor initiatives benefiting the community, while creating employment for those who seek it.
effecttrans.com
Even though the treatments themselves can be costly due to their length, training and equipment are surprisingly affordable in comparison. So all it takes is a determined community with people willing to pick up the electrologist role.
effecttrans.com
There is precedent too: Siobhan (@electrovon) raised money for a similar project in Manchester in 2019 and has been operating ever since

So relying on wider society for this service comes with problems. Is it feasible for us to try to grow in-community capacity then?

Fortunately, yes! We recently heard about the Glasgow Electrolysis Project; they started accepting customers from 22nd Sep!

Worse, it's mainly provided by general beauty salons that are not equipped with trans-specific expertise and can't offer us advice (and on top of that it can feel pretty awkward too). Finding a suitable place is quite often a difficult task.
effecttrans.com
Electrolysis for facial hair removal/ SRS is vital to many transfeminine transitions. It is the only permanent method, and the only method suited for pale hair.

It is however difficult to access, as a full course can be lengthy (100~200 sessions) and costly (£10~20k).

BREAKING NEWS:

I am thrilled to be able to report that after a discussion with JPAC, JPAC has agreed to update it's position statement to make it clear that trans people haemoglobin levels should be tested against their hormonal levels, not their Sex at Birth.

People who underwent all the legal and surgical steps in the UK to change their sex were betrayed by the CPS, NHS, the Labour Govt and the Supreme Court. We lost all of our ground to mass hysteria, letting the state walk back on its promises.

Do we have a plan to regain our ground?

I want to explain a few things and then it might be clearer why UK trans people are upset.
In 2001 I married my wife, Sylvia.
In 2005 I started medical transition. (1/13)

On that note, the NHS generally does not believe in the existence of medical transition

A post-op friend had a UTI recently, and checked the NHS article for guidance (those articles are good generally!). What does it say? that male guidelines apply of course
Screenshot of NHS 'Urinary tract infections (UTIs)' page:

See a pharmacist if:

you think you have a urinary tract infection (UTI) and you are a woman or girl aged between 16 and 64 and are not pregnant or breastfeeding

[...]

Urgent advice: Ask for an urgent GP appointment or get help from NHS 111 if:

You think you, your child or someone you care for may have a urinary tract infection (UTI) and:

[...]
you're a man, or are trans or non-binary and were assigned male at birth

The NHS can't have it both ways. It can't say that we are simultaneously and unchangeably our sex at birth and then prevent us from blood donation based upon our identities. Quantum genders aren't real. It's time for the NHS to accept biological reality...
rebeccajones03.bsky.social
Together, we can change NHS policy and deliver an inclusive blood donation policy.
