My book, Disconnected, comes from a wish to connect readers with the resources I once needed myself. To celebrate the book's 1st anniversary in November, I’m sharing a new series of essays on how Asperger’s can challenge couples.

"Disconnected" is a 2025 Readers' Favorite Finalist in the Non-Fiction Relationships genre! This is the sort of news that keeps me going.=)

These are two of my favorite reviews from the last couple of months.

It means the world to me to connect with readers and hear that my book made them feel less alone. And one of the ways more readers who need my book can find it is through reviews. Take a moment to drop a line?🙏
It's been a good couple of weeks for Disconnected, with my article up on Jane Friedman’s blog on whether Writing Awards matter & a review from The US Review of Books.

These little wins are inspiring me to keep writing the books I need in this world.=)

Do Writing Awards Matter?
I'll take mine with a shot of dopamine, please

When writers ask me about how I got published, or built a platform, or started my author newsletter, I respond, “I follow Jane Friedman. Today, I had the honor to share my article "I won a writing award, does it matter?" on her blog!

Even awards that offer only bragging rights, but no prize money, can telegraph something important: your work matters to readers.

Great fun at 9th Ave: SF Writers Grotto Blood, Sweat and Tears Toast at Green Apple Books! 🍷

Earlier this month, I had the opportunity to celebrate Disconnected, a finalist for the Eric Hoffer Award, alongside other Grotto writers who released books this year!

My memoir Disconnected won an honorable mention in the memoir category of the Eric Hoffer Award, the premier award for small press books. Sharing this news today gladdens my heart. There were more than 2,500 books entered in 25 categories. Being among the small % of writers honored is remarkable
Just found out my memoir Disconnected made the Grand Prize Shortlist for the Eric Hoffer Award. Found out mid-electrical rewiring—fitting, since the book’s about the brain's wiring. Deeply honored, especially in the company of Joan Kwon Glass, Stacey C. Johnson & others. #Memoir #HofferAward

Marlowe is scary-smart, extremely intuitive, and the most people-oriented cat I’ve ever met. He trills when he has a question for me, follows me from room to room, and always sits on my lap and purrs. He is truly an excellent companion. Writing can be solitary, but it’s better with a Marlowe!
Earlier this month, I did the sweetest book club talk. As an author, I love book club talks; they're interactive, intimate, and always fun.

Want to book me for your next book club? I travel all over the Bay, and I also love Zoom meet-ups. Let's open a page, crack open a bottle of wine, and chat!
Disconnected has resonated with a range of people: women with their own stories of heartbreak late in life, lovers of memoir, the children of neurodivergent parents, mental health professionals, journalists, hopeless and cynical romantics, and more. It's such an honor to hear from so many folks
Reflecting on my life after the story of my memoir, Disconnected, I am reminded that every moment is an opportunity for love. My last romantic love story didn't go as planned, but I see all my love from nature, animals, family, friends, and community. I can say, Okay, this is good. This is enough.
1966. Is it time to bring it back? Back then, I worked at Perkin’s Pancake House so I could buy all my own cosmetics and clothes. This hair is brought to you by the powers of AquaNet hairspray, which I just learned still exists!

Like many writers, I often need nature to connect to and to replenish my creative spirit. I love living in Rossmoor, with views of Mount Diablo visible from all corners. Sometimes all I need is to walk out my front door.

There is something poignant about this photo. I believe this is the last move I will ever do (I can't imagine going through the exhaustion of moving ever again), and in this photo, it is as if my suitcases are looking out at the beginning of a new life, pondering the old one.
Happy National Library Week!
