My parents went, wearing frog hats
My mom texted me with a picture of her at one of the No Kings protests. Her first protest ever. The normies have awakened.

Of all the things that are hard in my life, My marriage is the *least* hard. 10 years in, still a joy, still easy, still my favorite.
You know what was hard? My first marriage. That sucked because it was a bad marriage that needed to end.
You know what was hard? My first marriage. That sucked because it was a bad marriage that needed to end.
“Marriage is hard, even when no crises loom, and even when things basically work,” Agnes Callard writes. “What makes it hard are not only the various problems that arise but the lingering absence that is felt most strongly when they don’t.”
The Problem of Marital Loneliness
The new “Scenes from a Marriage,” on HBO, avoids the dark questions that Ingmar Bergman confronted in the original.

Also, this particular quote didn't make it into the piece, but when I asked Rev. Terri Hord Owens — General Minister and President of the Disciples of Christ denomination that this church belongs to — about the incident, she also compared the tactics here to those used by the KKK:

I got the first COVID vaccine when I was 10 weeks pregnant. I got the second shot 4 weeks later.
Once babu was born, I didn't take him *ANYWHERE* until after he had the three shot series of the COVID vaccine. He was 9 months old before he saw the inside of a store, a school, a library, etc.

Hot take, I guess, but using AI to write your sermons is cheating the congregation that hired you. I also think it does spiritual harm to both the writer and listener.
selfishly ... i don't want to be around a whole bunch of people who cheat

Rev Dr Barber is the Inaugural Prophetic Preacher-in-Residence of the newly created Office of Prophetic Witness in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).
He was just arrested as he prayed in the US Capitol Rotunda.

BREAKING: Police just surrounded Rev. William Barber, prominent activist and pastor, as he and others prayed in the U.S. Capitol Rontunda.
Police then expelled everyone (including press!) from the Rotunda to (presumably) arrest them.
I've covered protests here a lot. Never seen anything like it.

Tradition states that last night Jesus emptied out all the jails. Spent Saturday night telling people “I don’t care what you did, people weren’t made for prisons.” The next day to prove His point He broke out of solitary. It is finished. Easter is incompatible with the carceral state. Happy Easter.

This is one of the reasons that our stupid president wants to annex Greenland
For years, China has controlled the export of rare earths—metals essential to products like semiconductors and lights. Now, amid a trade war with the U.S., it's tightening that grip, threatening American manufacturing and military power. But what are rare earth metals, and why are they important?
What Are Rare Earth Metals, the Exports Halted by China?
China’s new restrictions on exports of the metals could have an impact on the production of everything from LED lights to fighter jets.

Friendly reminder for #clergy preaching John 12: Lazarus of Bethany did NOT die of leprosy. That's the Lazarus from Jesus' parable in Luke 16.
I had to delete a whole paragraph of my sermon when I realized I'd conflated the two.

Hello. As you can imagine, I'm mad/sad/disgusted by just about every news item. We (the world?) deserve better. It was hard to do anything but doom-scroll. I did manage to read again this month.

Listening to some Sarah Paine lectures recently, I learned that Japan invaded mainland china b/c of the worldwide economic catastrophe set off by America imposing tariffs (Smoot–Hawley). That changed the calculus of the Chinese civil war which gave rise to Mao, etc., etc.

You know, I wonder how many historic figures of resistance would be diagnosed today with pathological demand avoidance (pda)
I don’t have to fend off the desire to comply in advance. Anyone who knows me knows that, fortunately or unfortunately, I would rather die than let someone I don’t respect tell me what to do.
