Feedback Survey about Form Subdivision ($v) Omission from Subject Headings
The Library of Congress announced in January 2025 that as part of a linked data-friendly “Modern MARC” cataloging practice, they will no longer include form/genre subdivisions (e.g., 600 $v, 650 $v, 6...

It is my goal in life to have lived in such a way that when I die, no one will say about me “rip, douchebag”.

This made me laugh so much, I can’t explain why.

Imagine boarding a train, sitting down and when the attendant asks to scan your ticket (which they need to do before the train can leave) you tell him “Does it have to be right now? I’m in a meeting.” What is wrong with people?

This train ride so bumpy!! I’m holding the meal tray to prevent it from falling off the table.

I thought this level of passenger discomfort was exclusive to @octranspo

I’m currently on @viarailcanada.bsky.social train 53 from Ottawa to Toronto. I’m in business class and the air conditioning is nonexistent. The employees on the train are visibly uncomfortable in these working conditions. It’s hot and uncomfortable.

I’d like to find a commuter gym duffle bag with a separate shoe compartment that converts into a backpack that also has room for a laptop and a packed lunch. Would I be asking too much for it to be in a colour other than black? Oh, and it shouldn’t cost more than $150. Does such a thing even exist?

2/2 They said we were just in time for the next tour. We explained we had returned to pay for the tour we’d just been on. They thanked us for our honesty. We replied, “Of course we came back to pay. We’re Canadian!”

My spouse and I went to the Juno Beach Centre on Canada Day in 2014. We arrived and queued to pay for a tour. The power had gone out so they couldn’t take payment. They let us on the tour anyway. When the tour was done, the power had come back so we went to pay. 1/2

Please explain to @jonsopel1.bsky.social that Canada has provinces and territories, not states. It is the province of Ontario, not the “state of Ontario” as Jon said in the 28 April episode. Shocking and disappointing to hear such a massive mistake.

I think about people with sleeping babies or barking dogs at home. This kind of disruptive unsolicited imposition is the height of disrespect.

I realize that canvassers are likely volunteers but they need training. I just wanted a peaceful afternoon. I don’t deserve to be startled in my own home by someone banging on the door , ringing the doorbell numerous times and leaving so that I didn’t have time to answer the door if I’d wanted to.

When I realized what was going on, I opened the door and asked them to take back their material. Then I said that it is rude to bang on the door and ring the doorbell several times. It’s aggressive and doesn’t leave a good impression of the candidate. I hope they take the feedback.

Yesterday (before the federal election was even called) someone banged hard on my front door and then rang the doorbell several times. I looked out the window and saw a group of canvassers for a political candidate at the bottom of the driveway. They left campaign material in the mailbox.

2/2 I'd been bracing myself for a big new appliance bill (and the added "shop Canadian" aspect of the research). Repair instead of replace. It's good the environment and my wallet (assuming that the quote I get in a couple of days isn't the same as the cost of a new washing machine!)

Yesterday, I noticed that my circa 1996 Kitchenaid washing machine (that came with the house we bought in 2021) was leaking. The repair person who came by said he can replace the leaking part. What a relief! 1/2

It seems to me that that if someone is going to go to the effort to fly a Canadian flag from their car to (I assume) show their Canadian pride, the least they can do is make sure it’s not torn to smithereens, as I saw in my city today. Elbows up, but put some respect on it.

I’ve also seen “America-no” on some menus and that’s pretty funny.

On this International Women's Day, I remember another International Women's Day when a male colleague described his former workplace where there was only 1 woman. He said (with a degree of pride in his voice) that they always told her she was "one of the boys", like that is a marker of true equality
