life seemed so simple then.

Oklahoma’s Republican governor criticizes guard deployment. www.nytimes.com/2025/10/09/u...
Gov. Kevin Stitt of Oklahoma, a Republican and the chairman of the National Governors Association, on Thursday criticized the deployment of Texas National Guard troops to Illinois as a violation of his beliefs in federalism and “states’ rights.”

His comments, in an interview with The New York Times, marked the first time a Republican governor has questioned the interstate deployment of National Guard troops over a governor’s objections. Gov. JB Pritzker of Illinois and other Democratic elected officials have been strongly critical of the move and have implored Republican governors to join the opposition.

Mr. Stitt on Thursday said, “We believe in the federalist system — that’s states’ rights,” adding, “Oklahomans would lose their mind if Pritzker in Illinois sent troops down to Oklahoma during the Biden administration.”

this is a surreal read.

reminds me *so* much of the dystopian, authoritarian-US future envisioned by @christopherbrown.bsky.social in his novels Tropic of Kansas, Rule of Capture, and Failed State.

Greetings from U.S. District Court Judge April Perry’s courtroom in the Dirksen Federal Courthouse. Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul is present, waiting for the high stakes hearing to begin. @wttw.bsky.social

FULL STORY: As lawyers for the Trump administration defended the president’s unprecedented decision to send National Guard troops to Chicago despite the objections of Gov. Pritzker and Mayor Johnson, officials acknowledged that California troops had also been sent to Illinois. @wttw.bsky.social

ok, man. I think we're nibbling around the edges.

unless/until we meet on Yavin to plan our specific tactics, it doesn't seem worth to continue the nibbling.
ellisor.net
right. we're past that. I mean, that's great, too. MeToo was recently pretty damned effective.

but given the stakes and the current situation of *actual military being deployed in American cities*, yeah, memes, flag waving, and vuvuzelas probably aren't going to cut it.

it’s time for the real resistance, not just posting memes and blue heart emojis. real, active, peaceful, sustained, intense, broad resistance.

we have to persuade leaders to lead it and support them when they do.
ellisor.net
I think the Dem governors and mayors can and should do more, legally and nonviolently. some ideas off the top of my head
- order DOT to close roads near ICE facilities
- conduct routine power and water maintenance to facilities
- mire them in endless legal knots
- refuse any support whatsoever

awesome. see? I knew we could get there: nonviolent direct action.

seems like maybe we agree more than disagree.

I favor all strong direct actions to grind them to a halt short of physical violence against people.

good enough? … or do you advocate actual violence against people, today, given what we face today?

it’s a straightforward question.
ellisor.net
I get it. I had a similar run-in with another "itching for blood" account this morning.

people are angry and frustrated and don't know what else to do.

effective active resistance (beyond memes) is not easy. but intelligence + nonviolence + commitment can (and should) win the day.
ellisor.net
if we have to fight, then we have to.
I just don't think we're there yet.
a VERY active but nonviolent resistance (not just posting memes) is very much in order.
to be clear, I support things like taking out roads, bridges, and support infrastructure (e.g. power & water).

he's posting a series of these this morning. source seems suspect but I lack the energy to fact check. regardless, it's annoying, which I guess is what he (or whoever's actually posting) wants.
2 posts by "trumpreposter.bsky.social" which reposts from Donnie's account on Truth Social and/or twitter. dunno which. it's a photo of him looking awfully like Lloyd Bridges (so maybe it's doctored) with captions regarding 2 states - CA and NJ in this case - who have supposedly experienced a net positive swing in "change in party registration" to Republican. the source cited is "Seth Keshel CaptainK, US". same as first image but NM and NC same as first pic but PA and AZ

nice subtle reference to ABW&H. hadn't thought of them in a while. adding to my "listen again" playlist now.

I became a Skattebo fan when he played his heart out against my alma mater Texas in the Peach Bowl. dude is a power pack.

I actually agree with this. I’d just like it to be maximally peaceful and I think it can be and still work. it’s harder to effect change being primarily peaceful, but it’s for the best.

heh, yes. I'd love some more creative jamming on this theme -- coupled with actual actions.

it's not rocket science. they are operating in an environment that largely doesn't want them there. so ... make it as difficult as possible to operate.

all true.

they don’t authentically care about making America great. they care about owning the libs.

the I’m-online-too-much culture of insulting jokes and takedowns has become the permeating ethos of their politics. there’s no there there.

we live in a trollocracy.

yeah. I share your frustration. I understand that she won by a 2-to-1 margin.

it’s all part of the game the regime is playing.

First things first. She can't sue until Arizona certifies the election next week sometime. I forget when. What a single Republican can do is call for a new Speaker. It only takes one. Since he hasn't been able to convene the House, a new Speaker should be selected. Then she would be sworn in.
