I know I'm reposting a bunch of The Power Fantasy compliments about 12, but I'm actually being relatively restrained. There's a lot of them. 12 is going off.

I have to get to work early tomorrow for a very important presentation… so I guess now is the perfect time to download Hades II.

I've mostly disconnected how I engage with political news from social media, largely for fact check and wanting to consciously support journalism reasons. It means the rate at which I learn news is very controlled... except when I pop back onto platforms like this and question those boundaries.

Am accidentally becoming friends with two scrub jays. I know very little about this branch of the corvid family and I have so many behavior questions. Very excited to embark on this research journey.

An annoying side effect of publishing acquisition decisions being so opaque is that people who write about the industry often overly mythologize what are extremely boring and pedestrian parts of the process.

I find it very hard to remember that both the cats are gone. It happened so fast, one after another, and now the house feels extremely empty.

I forgot that the covid vaccines kick my ass this much. Really excited to get through the last couple of work hours so I can collapse into a hot puddle.

i have to say, as a trans journalist who has covered the "trans debate" for about a decade now, there is no daylight between how the trump administration and conservatives lie about tylenol and autism and how they've lied about youth trans care.

Yes, conservatives have been using a lot of "they did this" talk right now that's dangerous and bad

And also

Nice to know they're perfectly capable of using they/them pronouns after all.

Whenever I hear a word that rhymes with “tradition” my brain goes full Fiddler on the Roof. So every conversation around January 6 sounded like

Seditioooon, sedition

Sedition

SEDITIOOOOON, SEDITION

SEDITION

more than a decade ago, one Fraction-Aja Hawkeye panel captured the vibe of this entire era we're living in now
a panel from the Matt Fraction David Aja run on Hawkeye that depicts a newspaper front page that says Everything Awful Oh God Somebody Do Something

LOL. Guys. We don’t register to protest. We just show up.

Nearly three million Americans donated to Kamala Harris on ActBlue last year. That statement of public support is the perfect antidote to autocratic oppression. You should definitely sign up for a No Kings protest on October 18, and invite your family and friends to carpool with you. nokings.org

Karina Villa protecting her constituents by literally running ICE off the streets in West Chicago and yelling to residents to stay inside their homes.

I wonder if I’d have better executive function skills if my brain didn’t insist on retaining “Alo, salut, sunt eu un haiduc,” etc.

I don’t overly care about the Emmys, but I’m glad there was an award for the writing on Andor. “When truth leaves us, when we let it slip away, when it is ripped from our hands, we become vulnerable to the appetite of whatever monster screams the loudest” has stayed with me, for obvious reasons.

Petition to reinstate afternoon calls as a culture. I've had friends popping by all afternoon to pick up cat things and, aside from the grief, it's been lovely having people I like randomly show up for a short visit during a prearranged set of hours. More of this!

But also, if we could get through more than three months without any more deaths in my family's life, I'd really appreciate it.

I have had an exceptionally shitty year full of too many deaths, serious illnesses, and other crises, just one after another. To cope, I've decided there's a ghost in my home who messes with me. It allows me to direct anger somewhere harmless, but I'm also lowkey impressed at the ghost's commitment.

Said goodbye to our beautiful, clever, friendly, silly, caring, wonderful Frankie. There will never be another like this special, remarkable cat.

It’s too soon, especially only two months after Flicka.
Frankie sitting on my bed. A close up of Frankie’s face showing his beautiful blue eyes, giant whiskers, ear wings, and lynx points. Frankie curled up happily on my chest. Frankie standing up very tall on a chair, showing his giant paws and his bobtail.

Me, working: I have my favorite musical stuck in my head, so maybe I’ll listen to some of it while I get things done.

Brian Stokes Mitchell: I see his face…

Me, instantly sobbing, a mess: JUST KIDDING!

Oh shit, I forgot today was new Florence day! I’m so ready for this witch album!!!
