“it will happen in your lifetime, so be prepared. This will be the playbook they use.” .......I encourage every single one of my followers to read this. It is an amazing, honest, factual piece about what we are living through .
The truth can’t be silenced. In 1970, when Wamsutta Frank James was barred from telling the real story of the Pilgrims, he turned censorship into action creating the National Day of Mourning. This Indigenous People’s Day, we honor his courage to reclaim history. (1/2)
This Indigenous People’s Day (Monday, October 13), we honor Annie Mae Pictou Aquash, a fearless advocate for Indigenous rights and a leader in the Native civil rights movement. Her courage and dedication continue to inspire generations fighting for justice, sovereignty, and equality.
This moment is testing more than our economy—it’s testing our endurance, our democracy, and our commitment to each other.

And facing uncomfortable truths head-on instead of shying away from it will come out of these hardships stronger than ever.

Comedian Bethany Van Delft isn’t afraid to say it: when Jimmy Kimmel's show was temporarily cancelled, people protested. But when Black women and other truth-tellers lost their platforms for speaking out, the outrage never came. Read The Fine Print here: substack.com/home/post/p-...

Heather McGhee warned us about "zero-sum" politics in "The Sum of Us." And we're seeing it play it now: when we start trying to win at other peoples' expense, everyday people lose, no matter what side of the aisle they're on. So let's flip the script.

The Trump administration says removing references to slavery from our national parks celebrates "progress" rather than negativity.

But how can you highlight healing and progress if you can't admit to your scars?

So let's tell the whole truth about America—and ourselves.

As Hispanic Heritage Month begins, the contradiction between our celebration of Latino culture and mass deportation is stark.

Let the Embrace Massó ¡Con Salsa! Festival be our statement for belonging and inclusion.

Asked about being a Black woman in media during this time, @blavity.bsky.social’s Morgan DeBaun says she can’t help but ask “Is what I’m doing making a difference?” with Black people continuing to suffer from police violence and discrimination. The key: finding an answer that preserves hope.

Segun Idowu hitting a key point when talking about systemic racism’s impact on the economy:
—2020 Citigroup report noted country has lost $16 trillion due to racial discrimination
—Closing the wealth gap between just Black and white MA residents would add $20 million to the economy
Sen. Miranda hits Massachusetts for not passing meaningful criminal justice reform in the last six years, noting the disproportionate representation of Black residents in the criminal system compared to white counterparts despite being just 20% of the population.
The racial wealth gap, Sen. Miranda says, will never change until property ownership becomes easier for Black and Brown people. Touts first-generation homebuyer funding the state has secured and investments in the Black Builders Coalition.
Segun Idowu while wrapping up a history lesson on how Black people have responded to backlash against racial progress and fought for rights: “We need to find the tools that work for today.”

Sen. Miranda follows up with a note on policy wins: “Policy is great. Implementation is better.”
Sen. Miranda on the administration’s war against DEI and “wokeness”: “This is about access…we’re sidelining talent” by keeping Black and Brown communities out of key positions.

Says we must treat this moment like the new Civil Rights Movement: “They didn’t stop until they got what they wanted.”
Segun Idowu, Boston’s Chief of Economic Opportunity and Inclusion, says the Trump administration’s policies might even be “understated” in the region as tariffs and cuts to SNAP, other programs threaten to exacerbate poverty in the region.

“We’re in scary times.”

A really sobering quote to finish as Sen. Miranda talks about the assassination attempts of two Minnesota politicians—one successful—that rocked the country less than a week ago:

“I don’t want to die in this job. My family needs me. My community needs me.”
