every time i think about sex writing, i think about this excerpt from a book i read once that talked about how broadly speaking, vaginas get hard and penises get wet, and the emphasis of what is like physically happening in each circumstance is incredibly gendered (sorry i forget which book now)

brainwashed early by the High Achieving Asian Disapora culture in my weird insular high school cohort; ruled out business (evil), engineering (too much screen time), law (can't handle being wrong occasionally) > guess i'm gonna do medicine
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

We lost some work because some authors who showed their weirdness and rough edges asked uncomfortable questions about the power structures too many people accept as given, and then a bunch of the "community" tormented them until they hid away.

Isabel Fall was one for starters.
I think we lost some work because authors were afraid to show their weirdnesses, rough edges, to ask uncomfortable questions.
We can debate all day about who got cancelled and whether or not they deserved it, but one thing I have noticed is that a lot of queer YA written from ~2019-2022 has a kind of sterile after-school-special vibe where you can just tell they sanitized the fuck out of it to appease the Twitter hivemind

"Novels of female interiority have dominated literary fiction for nearly a decade." Happy almost 11 months of pub to CLUB CONTANGO. ✨️😮 Did you know!✨️ It has a not-young MC, and takes on "themes of migration and money"! 🎲📉

deepest of deep breaths

feeling nervous about this one, friends! I've written about the mainstreaming of pull-to-publish, its impact on fandom, and what it means for an increasingly corporate and IP-driven creative landscape.
"Feed fanfic into capitalism, and it comes out shaped like capitalism."

@readingtheend.bsky.social dissects the trend pulling fanfiction through the traditional publishing pipeline (and what it means for fandom):

Other trans writers on here are taking the opportunity to push their books atm so I thought I'd stop worrying about looking opportunistic for a moment and shill the trans cyberpunk noir mystery I originally drafted in 2019. The world is vastly and grimly different than it was back then. 1/2
My trans cyberpunk debut Bang Bang Bodhisattva is out in hardback, paperback and audiobook! It was a finalist for the 2024 Lambda award for speculative fiction! www.amazon.com/Bang-Bodhisa...
