New EXIT score APPROVED 🙌🏽

The U.S. Dep of Ed approved NC’s amendment to (ESSA) state plan. An overall composite score of 4.5 on the WIDA ACCESS test for Ss to exit English learner status.

At CHS we had 13 MLs meet the EXIT criteria! 👏🏽

When I read Emily Francis's new series, "Milly's Journey," my first thought was, "I can't wait to read these books to students." Emily's description of her childhood joys and challenges parallels many of the stories my students tell me about their early years and their countries of origin. While students are in my classroom, I want to give them the opportunity to tell their own stories, see themselves reflected in literature, and grow their English skills. "Milly's Journey" will allow me to achieve all three goals as my scholars use English to compare Emily's stories to their own lives. Reading the entire Milly's Journey series will certainly help children see that their own stories are, in fact, beautiful and worth sharing with the world. These sweet yet meaningful children's books get 5 stars from this teacher!
