apparently the one-liner "laurens i like you a lot" in the musical is supposed to be a nod to this

"alexander hamilton" by ron chernow!

reading alexander hamilton's biography and becoming a hamilton-laurens relationship truther

> hamilton meets eliza schuyler
> decides to marry her
> doesn't tell best friend john laurens
> when he finally does, he's like "she's fine i guess but you're still my #1"
> historians: "just friends"

I wrote an op-ed on the world-class STEM research ecosystem in the United States, and how this ecosystem is now under attack on multiple fronts by the current administration: newsletter.ofthebrave.org/p/im-an-awar...
I’m an award-winning mathematician. Trump just cut my funding.
The “Mozart of Math” tried to stay out of politics. Then it came for his research.

For example, Anthropic’s MCP (an open protocol equivalent for AI models) has been adopted by many other labs including OpenAI, and I’m unsure if a non-frontier lab introducing MCP would have the same influence (at least at the same speed)

if Elon never purchased Twitter and
- Bluesky stays within Twitter to develop atproto
- Twitter keeps original intention to adopt atproto
- atproto now has 300M+ users

Maybe that would’ve applied much more pressure to other mainstream networks to adopt open standards, given Twitter’s size

on the surface Elon’s purchase of Twitter has made the need for open networks (somewhat) clear to consumers, but I’m not convinced this was net more effective for the movement for open protocols

Did Elon buying Twitter actually help the open internet and the movement for social media protocols?
Elon Musk’s Twitter takeover might be the best thing to happen to apps built on open protocols.

But @karaswisher.bsky.social tells @rabble.nz that people won’t switch unless these apps are more convenient.

though it seems like this is increasingly how all political accounts use social media now, which i dislike

yeah, disappointing and frustrating that the sitting VP would take time out of his day to intentionally provoke people who are still his constituents

more government accounts should join bluesky
meeting audiences where they are is important, but government officials posting on closed networks will never make sense to me. of all use cases, gov announcements seems like the one that most especially needs to be somewhere freely and transparently available

(i am looking directly at you, NTSB)

it's good actually that the sitting U.S. Vice President has joined bluesky
