When I taught Civics, I used Supreme Court cases to trace our expansion of rights to demonstrate democratic values.
If I were still teaching Civics today, I would need to place the concepts of 'precedent,' 'stare decisis,' and 'rule of law' in the trash bin.

Police officers really shouldn't need to be threatened with dismissal if they fail to protect innocent people from masked thugs harassing, beating and black-bagging them in broad daylight.
But at least it's a step in the right direction.
