I know a lot of fanfic writers discouraged by the lack of fan-to-fan interaction hate hearing "write for yourself" but what that really means is that you are writing a story YOU want to read. When you think of YOURSELF as your first (and most important) audience, the rest falls into place.
Fanfic and fanart is about having fun!
The first thought should always be to just write it for yourself, to feel the joy in your heart!
and then, AFTER: share it!
try not to "write for an audience" as you work, it will make you second guess and overthink
