Everyone deserves a truly healthy and comfortable home. I teach how to do it. It almost always involves a heat pump aka two way air conditioner. One way ACs are dumb. #energysky #heatpumps ⚡️ 🔌 💡 www.natethehousewhisperer.com & electrifyeverything.net

Great 50 year old #heatpump ad!

Don't heat like a caveman!

This is good mainstream messaging, we need much more like this, not early adopter or green focused.

general electric ad for a heat pump from 1975 Readers Digest!

ERV/HRV will still add humidity when it’s humid outside btw. I lost control of several older homes (no vapor barrier under basement floor.)

He’s correct they’ll last if you keep up with filters. I don’t trust most people including myself lol. Quarterly air handler filter changes I’m good about.
energysmartwv.bsky.social
Both turn to 25%, the challenge is that the air handler doesn’t necessarily. So dehumidification performance may not be as good.

You’ll need a dehumidifier regardless.

Not sure how bad it is but open windows lead to high tvocs when you close them. (Annoying but true.)

Also consider the VNA0.
energysmartwv.bsky.social
The cold temperature performance will be relatively similar, the big difference will be dehumidification and how much it can turn down. Turned down, affects Comfort quite a bit.

Where do you live?

The infinity control is by far my favorite residential control. It is truly communicating and it runs the equipment like a symphony.

The Midea is going to be 24 V only, no communication. Or I should say no real communication because even that line is blurry now.

Thanks! My wife found them. I wired them. It reminded me that I don’t enjoy attic work lol

I love the please be seated sign that she re-created

So many details!

PS hanging those lights really sucked lol

These projects give us a lot of joy, and it’s one of the rare cases where you can make money on art.

Speaking of art, you might notice our daughter’s chainsaw man cosplay.

This has been a fun business to build!

Does it bring you back to your childhood?

My wife and I have really been digging into creating immersive vacation rentals.

My wife conceived of and had a neighbor build this salad bar in a room that is styled as a throwback Pizza Hut.

The local Pizza Hut was even kind enough to give us some old salad bar plates.

Agreed. Mainstream arguments needed. Been saying this since 2018 but not always following it myself.

Want to reduce electricity bills 20% by 2030?

Release the data! We have over 37GW of batteries, water heaters, etc that can participate in demand flexibilty. But without data access they can't bid into the PJM/MISO capacity auction to bring down costs.

Smart meters were all the rage in 2009 (aka Advanced Metering Infrastructure, AMI) and even then most of us knew they were unlikely to bring any real benefits for residential customers. Little did we know that Utilities using rickety Oracle and SAP systems would create a crisis. 🧵

They can lol

The local Pizza Hut was kind enough to offer a 15% discount. Or half off the taco pizza which came out in the 80s, so that might be enough to get people to order there :-)
energysmartwv.bsky.social
We are frankly out of cash to do it, and I also have curiosity to see how it performs with a current bad building shell, then I will upgrade it, then I will change to a heat pump.

PS Creating immersive experiences is something that my wife and I really enjoy.

Ironically this is our only house that isnt electric, it has a furnace. I’m gonna leave it for a couple of years as an experiment.

We are nearing completion on our 80s nostalgia Airbnb near the New River Gorge National Park.

The dining room is throwback Pizza Hut.

We have a salad bar being made along with please be seated sign. We have a child seat already. The payphone needs to go up.

What do you think?
energysmartwv.bsky.social
I lead the hybrid heating group in large park because I’d like to see what we can do at a smaller scale to develop the consensus.
energysmartwv.bsky.social
We should definitely be doing what we can at the state and local levels.

I still remain heartbroken that we lost the shot in 2022, that was our only good shot at finishing decarb by 2050.

It’s something like five or 10% of US carbon emissions that got pushed back to 10 or 20 years

They need to be cleaned every 1-3 years in general, but yes in dusty environments it's a bigger deal. Look at your blower wheel and see if it's gross, it's not the filter that is the issue, it allows dirt through it.
energysmartwv.bsky.social
Simplicity. That requires creating a top. It was pretty snug in this case too.

I do think there should be a product for this. A housing.
energysmartwv.bsky.social
Thank you for getting out there!

It’s usually pretty wild when you deal with the full public. You get the good, the bad, and the ugly.
energysmartwv.bsky.social
Need conditioned storage and have a shed?

A mini split and a dehumidifier can set you up.

I need to install filters on the mini split, but otherwise it’s done.

I love Mysa thermostats, they do datalogging.

Now we have space where stuff for future projects won’t rot or freeze.
