Lots of new followers lately: hello there, I guess!

A re-introduction: my name is Leonard Sultana, I'm a middle aged nerd based in Yorkshire, married to Caroline, currently looking after my dad who is not in a good way but we’re muddling on, I guess.

What’s with the San Diego thing? Well…

I tell you one thing about #TRONAres: the 3D in the IMAX screening I saw was absolutely phenomenal and it pisses me off that the only I'm going to get to see that again is by spending £80+ on a Japanese import Blu-ray. Then again, that's every 3D movie nowadays. Don't get me started on the MCU.

Heh. I know @marksearby.com - who saw #TronAres on Tuesday - has kept his opinion to himself purely to see if I embarrass myself by possibly raving over this film. That’s very tactical of you Mark!

Well I’m not going to embarrass myself… But I am going to fly in the face of this films detractors...

Reposting for the filthy American late night crowd. Go read my story. It's dark and sad and happy, with a bit of magical realism and a fairy tale feel.

I was SO busy this week, I missed my short story "Grown Boy" going up at Intrepidus Ink. Not tomorrow, like the video says, but live now.

It's flash, so takes only a few minutes to read. Go check it out.

Well, well: #FanExpoBoston2026 you cheeky tease.

What do we think, any guesses on what they could be planning to announce?
englishmansdcc.bsky.social
Never said I liked it. Said I understood and can justify its existence and the approach it took.
englishmansdcc.bsky.social
Which favourite films are you referring to? Close Encounters Of The Third Kind? The Sting? Network? The Prestige? Those films that don't make any sense?
englishmansdcc.bsky.social
Maybe this sounds like I’m condemning the film, when I said at the beginning that I quite liked it. And I did – it was noisy, it was flashy, it was distracting and I was fine with it getting me out of the house on a Friday night. It’s as fulfilling as ChatGPT – but at least it knows it. 6–7/10.
englishmansdcc.bsky.social
… And that’s the big problem, isn’t it? Somewhere, buried under layers of artifice is a film which is desperately trying to ask some big questions of the nature of life and reality. I’d like to read the first draft of this, written nearly a decade ago because Tron Ares feels rewritten to mediocrity.
englishmansdcc.bsky.social
As the centre of the film, he does what’s required – which admittedly isn’t much and mostly involves a lot of Messiah like posturing. No type casting there, then!

the rest of the supporting cast handle the noise and thunder this film delivers, even though it ends up being decidedly bonkers...
englishmansdcc.bsky.social
You have to live with the presence of the eternally smug, eminently ick-inducing, paper-thin performance of Jared Leto - who, personally, I have to say I didn’t think was as bad as some are tarring him with (oh boy, Mark Kermode really doesn’t like Jared Leto! Did he shit on his cat or something?)
englishmansdcc.bsky.social
...I personally liked it. Maybe it’s because I grew up with the original Tron, back in the day, giving me more of an emotional connection with the world. I thought it was visually stunning, and Nine Inch Nails deliver a phenomenally pounding soundtrack.

But now, the elephant in the room.
