This is just because Linux for the desktop is a hobby for most of the userbase which is unique among other desktop OSs. Hobbyists have strong opinions and values that are more fractured. There aren't really windows hobbyists in the same way and if there are they make up a much smaller % of users.
I really don't want to be "the guy who yucks on linux" but listen, everyone who uses it says everyone else is wrong about some particular thing and it's that extremely fractured and hostile aspect of it that I'm both critiquing and saying chases people away.
