#TrackFLU meet Wildlife Conservation Society Cambodia to discuss how wild bird data could help explain #HPAI virus circulation in domestic birds. Potential collaboration for our next field study later this year! @epidesa.bsky.social @institutpasteur.bsky.social @inrae-france.bsky.social

📢 New paper out! Since Oct 2023, France has vaccinated ducks against HPAI. Outbreaks dropped sharply. We estimated 314–756 outbreaks were expected, but saw 96–99% fewer. Vaccination likely key, but other factors still to explore. doi.org/10.3201/eid3... @epidesa.bsky.social @inrae-france.bsky.social

🐔🔐 Well done Rebecca, Oksana, and Mattias with excellent presentations at the first conference of the World Animal Biosecurity Association.
From participatory research to practical policy discussion, collective action with farmers policy-makers and researchers is the way forward.

This month, we're hosting Yik Lim Hew, PhD candidate from Hokkaido University 🇯🇵. His research dives into the epidemiology of #HPAI in Japan, and during his stay, he’ll be investigating outbreaks: tracking introductions, regional spread, and species jumps using #phylodynamics.

How to conduct #surveillance in duck flocks vaccinated against highly pathogenic avian influenza #HPAI in order to have sensitive and timely detection of HPAI virus introduction?

👉Better test few dead animals than large samples of live animals

Thrilled to share our work on the influence of wild boar density on the spread of African swine fever #ASF in northern Italy (Jan 2022 - Sep 2023).
Our model reproduced observed ASF dynamics and showed that wild boar density shaped the second ASF wave only.
